Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix endured a disappointing night as Denver fell 33-13 to the Green Bay Packers in Friday’s preseason matchup. However, his return to the field after months of offseason rehabilitation provided a bright spot for many Broncos fans.
Nix’s wife, Izzy, was among those celebrating his long-awaited return.

Nix’s return to game action on Friday marked the end of an eight-month journey back from a serious ankle injury. The Broncos quarterback fractured his right ankle late in the team’s January victory over the Buffalo Bills, forcing him to miss the AFC Championship Game.
Nix underwent two surgeries during his recovery, including a procedure in April to remove bone spurs. He had already participated in every scheduled training camp snap before Friday’s game, making his return to live-game action a highly anticipated moment for the Broncos fans.
After the game, Nix described his comeback as “very smooth,” while Izzy expressed her happiness at seeing him back on the field.
“Proud of him always, but especially today! Six months of rehab, training, and hard work. Good to see you back out there, #10,” Izzy wrote on her Instagram story alongside a video of the couple sharing a moment.

The game also carried extra significance for Denver, which entered the night with an eight-game preseason winning streak under head coach Sean Payton. That run came to an end with the Broncos’ loss, but Nix delivered the goods, completing six of nine passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Nix’s one notable moment came on third downs during Denver’s opening possession, as he connected with Jaylen Waddle for a 35-yard gain on third-and-5 from the Broncos’ 40-yard line. He later found RJ Harvey for a 21-yard touchdown on a wheel route.
The outing seemed to build on Nix’s incredible 2025 season, when he tallied 3,931 passing yards and 25 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He also added 356 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, earning him the No. 19 spot in PFN’s Quarterback Impact Metric.

Nix explained afterward that the biggest challenge of his return was mental rather than physical. However, he admitted he felt even better physically than before undergoing his two offseason procedures.
“I think over time, the extra cleanup surgery was good for me because it put me back to square one, back to base one,” Nix said. “I thought that I felt pretty good, as good as I’ve felt in a long time.”
For the Broncos, keeping Nix healthy throughout the season will be crucial if they hope to make a serious push to compete for, and ultimately win, the Super Bowl.
