The Indianapolis Colts briefly held their breath during a joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons after tight end Tyler Warren went down with an apparent leg injury.
Warren pulled up during an 11-on-11 drill and immediately appeared to be in discomfort. He was later seen walking off the field with medical staff, raising concerns about a potentially serious injury.
Fortunately for Indianapolis, the initial fears did not come true.
Huge Relief for Colts With Latest Tyler Warren Injury Update
Warren was diagnosed with a groin, or abductor, strain. Jordan Schultz reported that Warren “is going to be fine” and is not expected to miss much time. He could even return to practice next week.
That was enough to ease concerns around the Colts, especially with the regular season approaching.
The reaction around the NFL was immediate.
John Frascella summed up the feeling perfectly, writing, “Tyler Warren… FALSE ALARM, whew.”

Injury analyst Jeff Mueller noted that a mild groin strain can typically require a few weeks of recovery, while a more serious strain could lead to a longer absence. However, with several weeks to go before Week 1’s here, Warren still has time to recover.
Confirmed groin strain for Tyler Warren.
On average, 2-3 weeks to RTP if on the mild side.
If more significant, could extend to missing regular season games but hopefully that’s not the case here.
3.5 weeks until Week 1 so that’s good at least. https://t.co/kkk84p1xz5— Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept) August 19, 2026
Justin Aufiero also provided an encouraging update from practice, noting that Warren was initially limping and had his leg wrapped with ice, but his limp had improved by the end of the session. “By the end of practice, the wrap was off and the limp had lessened,” Aufiero reported.
As it relates to the Tyler Warren injury at Colts camp today, here’s what I observed:
He was limping afterward (duh), then had it wrapped with ice but was still walking around.
By the end of practice, the wrap was off and the limp had lessened.
(Also, I’m not a doctah 👨⚕️)

Colts Won’t Rush Warren Back
Head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Warren was dealing with a groin injury following practice. The Colts are expected to be cautious with Warren rather than risk turning a minor injury into a bigger problem.
That approach makes sense given Warren’s importance to the offense.
The 2025 first-round pick emerged as one of Indianapolis’ most promising offensive players during his rookie season and is expected to have an even bigger role this year.
With wide receiver Alec Pierce still recovering from offseason ankle surgery, Warren could be especially important as a reliable target for quarterback Daniel Jones.
For now, the Colts appear to have avoided a major setback. What initially looked like a potentially serious injury turned out to be a manageable groin strain, giving Indianapolis plenty of reason to breathe a sigh of relief.
