Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd has already missed the team’s last five games because of recurring soreness in her right knee.
On Wednesday, the Wings delivered an update that turned a short-term concern into a major blow for the franchise’s postseason hopes.
Azzi Fudd Injury Update: Dallas Wings Reveal Blow to Rookie’s Season
Fudd’s last appearance came Aug. 5, when she played 34 minutes in Dallas’ 96-92 loss to the Washington Mystics. Since then, the Wings have gone 1-4, with their lone victory coming in a hard-fought 94-88 win over the Toronto Tempo.
Dallas supporters had hoped the No. 1 pick in this year’s WNBA Draft would have enough time to recover before the playoffs. The Wings entered Wednesday with a 20-16 record and a 4.5-game cushion over the Portland Fire for the No. 8 and final playoff spot.
Those hopes took a major hit when ESPN reported the latest on the 5-foot-11 guard.
“Breaking: Azzi Fudd will miss the remainder of the regular season and will undergo an arthroscopic procedure to address ongoing right knee soreness, the Dallas Wings announced,” the Worldwide Leader posted.

WNBA insider Alexa Philippou then provided an even more definitive clarification for Dallas fans.
“TO CLARIFY: She will miss the remainder of the season (not just the regular season),” Philippou tweeted.

The news ends Fudd’s rookie campaign after 30 games. She averaged 13.1 points, 1.8 assists, 1.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 45.6%, including 39.7% from 3-point range.
Those numbers only highlight what Dallas is losing. Fudd, who won the 2026 WNBA All-Star 3-point contest, had emerged as the Wings’ most dangerous perimeter threat.
Her absence also places even more responsibility on Paige Bueckers. The reigning Rookie of the Year has already seen defenses throw increased pressure her way without Fudd available to punish them from outside.
The problem was evident in Dallas’ 78-70 loss to the Golden State Valkyries. Golden State relentlessly pressured Bueckers, forcing the star guard into a career-high 7 turnovers.
Dallas will now have to find another way to create space for Bueckers and keep its offense functioning without one of its most reliable shooters. The Wings still have a 4.5-game advantage in the playoff race, but simply reaching the postseason and actually competing once they get there are two very different challenges.

Fudd’s season-ending procedure changes the outlook for both. The Wings may have enough talent to secure that final playoff berth, but without their No. 1 pick stretching defenses from the perimeter, every postseason possession will become harder.
If Dallas cannot find another answer, losing Fudd could turn a promising playoff push into a short-lived October run and leave Bueckers carrying far more of the load than the Wings ever intended.
