‘I Don’t Feel Sorry for This Team’ — Ex-Chargers DT Rips Los Angeles for Being ‘Cheap’ Despite ‘$100 Million in Cap Space’

Ex-Chargers DT Breiden Fehoko blasts LA’s roster building after Tyler Biadasz’s injury, questioning the team’s use of its massive cap space.

The Los Angeles Chargers have been dealt a major blow just weeks before the 2026 season, and one former player believes the team brought some of it on itself.

Pro Bowl center Tyler Biadasz suffered a serious knee injury during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, exposing concerns about the Chargers’ depth on the interior offensive line.

The injury has now sparked criticism of Los Angeles’ offseason roster-building strategy.

Ex-Chargers DT Blasts LA over Cap Space

Biadasz, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chargers this offseason, was injured during an 11-on-11 drill when a defender fell into his left leg.

The veteran center suffered damage to multiple knee ligaments and is expected to miss significant time, potentially extending well into the regular season.

Former Chargers defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko did not hold back when reacting to the news. “100 million in cap space. You just absolutely wanna be cheap for the position group that matters the most. So many quality free agents were available to build depth. I don’t feel sorry for this team,” Fehoko said.

Fehoko’s criticism centers on the Chargers’ decision to enter the season without more proven depth behind Biadasz.

Los Angeles entered free agency with nearly $100 million in projected cap space and still has roughly $40.5 million available.

That financial flexibility gives the Chargers options, but their lack of experienced interior line depth has become a major concern after Biadasz’s injury.

The situation is particularly serious because Biadasz was brought in to provide stability in the middle of the offensive line and help take some of the pre-snap protection responsibilities away from quarterback Justin Herbert.

Replacing that experience on short notice will not be easy.
With the regular season approaching, the Chargers could turn to the free-agent market or explore a trade for an experienced interior lineman.

The Biadasz injury may have changed the equation.

What looked like adequate depth before training camp now appears far more fragile, and the Chargers have little time to address the problem before Week 1.

For Fehoko, the injury simply highlights what he believes was an avoidable mistake in roster building.

With Herbert entering another season as the centerpiece of the franchise, the Chargers cannot afford to leave his protection vulnerable. They now have roughly $40.5 million in cap space, proving they are willing to fix the problem.
