The Indiana Fever picked up their 24th win of the season on Tuesday by defeating the Toronto Tempo 101-95 at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
After the game, Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham received special praise from a political pundit, who pushed back against the criticism surrounding the two Fever stars.
Political Pundit’s Unique Praise for Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark
Cunningham has faced growing criticism since she spoke about transgender athletes during an ESPN interview last month. Her comments have sparked strong reactions, with protests from people on both sides of the debate appearing around several Fever road games.
Toronto was the newest stop on that tour, and the crowd let her know exactly how it felt. Every time Cunningham touched the ball, the boos got louder, part of a pattern that’s now become routine wherever she plays.
After the win, Cunningham was asked about the reaction during her postgame press conference. She did not appear bothered by it and simply described the boos as part of playing professional basketball.
“I’m gonna give a shoutout to the crowd and the city. I think we had so much fun. It’s my first time being in Canada. It’s a lot of our first time being in Canada. But the crowd was absolutely amazing. I think that’s what sports is all about.”
“You’re going to get boos, and you’re going to get cheers. But just the fact that they are so passionate, they are so loud, and they are putting it on for the city. I think it’s amazing, so shoutout to you guys,” Cunningham said during the interview.
Political pundit and OutKick journalist Bobby Burack later shared a video of the interview on X. Alongside the clip, he argued that Clark and Cunningham should not be treated as enemies by fans.
“Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark are not the villains in this story. They never have been,” Burack wrote on X.

Clark finished Tuesday’s game with 24 points, three rebounds, and seven assists. Cunningham also made an impact as she added 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Indiana controlled much of the game from the opening minutes. The Fever ended the first quarter with a 10-point lead and still held an eight-point advantage at halftime. Toronto tried to make a comeback after the break, but Indiana continued to find ways to score. The Fever finished the second half with 44 points and held on for the 101-95 victory.
The Fever will have another chance to face the Tempo later in the season. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on September 18.
