‘Hottest Offense the WNBA Has Ever Seen’ – 2-Time All-Star Sounds Off on Indiana’s ‘Historic’ Caitlin Clark-Kelsey Mitchell Duo

Chiney Ogwumike hails Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell after their dominant performance against Toronto Tempo on Tuesday night.

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell came out firing Tuesday night, helping the Indiana Fever hold off the Toronto Tempo 101-95 for their fifth straight win.

The Fever duo combined well throughout the game, delivering one of their best performances at Scotiabank Arena.

While their play stood out, two-time All-Star Chiney Ogwumike also shared her thoughts after the game, praising Clark and Mitchell’s efforts and highlighting their strong showings.

Kelsey Mitchell delivered a strong start for the Fever on Tuesday night, scoring 16 points in the opening quarter of their massive win over the Tempo. She ended the night with 29 points, while Clark added 24 points for the team.

Mitchell’s night ended early due to ‘overheating issues’.

After scoring eight points in less than a minute late in the third quarter, the four-time All-Star headed for the locker room.

After the game, ESPN’s Nicole Briscoe asked Ogwumike where the backcourt duo had found its current form.

Ogwumike pointed to a historic level of play from Clark and Mitchell, saying, “When it comes down to one word, it should be historic. When you think of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, because they are putting up historic numbers together.”

“This is the hottest offense the WNBA has ever seen, and it starts and, in some ways, ends with their backcourt because they put together complete games,” Ogwumike continued.

“Kelsey Mitchell had 29 and three quarters. She overheated, which is wild, and then Caitlin Clark 24 and seven. To me it’s their synergy.”

Detailing what makes Clark so effective, Ogwumike added, “Caitlin is so good at reading defenses, knocking down her signature logo three, but also finding her teammates in ways that are amounting to career highs or just tremendous production offensively from everybody else.”

Clark and Mitchell also made WNBA history tonight, becoming the first pair in league history to each score at least 20 points in the same game 16 times.

Their latest mark moved them past Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter, who had reached the previous record together in 2008.

Mitchell’s performance also extended another remarkable run as she has now scored at least 20 points for the 20th consecutive game, matching four-time MVP A’ja Wilson for the longest such streak in league history.

Yet, Indiana received important contributions across the roster. Aliyah Boston scored 16 points, while Sophie Cunningham finished with 13 points after making all three of her 3-point attempts.

The Fever controlled the game from start to finish and did not trail at any point in the first three quarters. Stephanie White’s squad now has 10 wins in its last 12 games.

Clark and Co. will now head to Dallas for their next matchup on Thursday, looking to continue their strong run and carry it into the postseason.
