‘Got Cooked by a 36-Year-Old TE’ — NFL Fans Call for Chiefs DB To ‘Hang It Up’ After Travis Kelce’s Viral Route

The NFL fans on social media trolled Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman after Travis Kelce got the better of him in a 1-on-1 drill.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Alohi Gilman is already making waves, but not in a good way.

On Monday, a clip surfaced of Gilman attempting to cover Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. In the now-viral video, Gilman embarrassingly lost the 1-on-1 rep to the future Hall of Famer. The video came as a shock to most NFL fans, as the former Los Angeles Charger is almost 10 years younger than the three-time Super Bowl champion.

Alohi Gilman Gets Trolled After Travis Kelce’s Brilliance

With the clip now circulating online, many NFL fans are calling for the Chiefs to change their defensive back, as they feel Gilman has proven to be a disappointment.

One X user, by the name of @RunItBackHerbo, stated that “Alohi Gilman got COOKED by a 36-year-old tight end.”

Another NFL fan noted that the “elderly” Kelce wasn’t even moving that fast, and Gilman still could not keep up with the 11-time Pro Bowler.

The fan wrote, “Alohi Gilman (100% butter) just got juked at 0.25x speed by a 57-year-old man with an eating disorder.”

While some fans joked about Kelce’s “old” age, some blamed Gilman himself for his poor performance and called on the Chiefs to make the cut.

Gilman’s Route to Redemption

With only a few weeks left until the start of the 2026 NFL regular season, fans can only hope that Gilman will get it together in time for the beginning of the season.

The Chiefs signed the Hawaii native to a three-year, $24 million contract. Gilman played all 17 games last season, 12 for the Baltimore Ravens and five for the Chargers, and recorded 90 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 fumble recoveries. According to PFN’s Safety Impact Metric, he posted an impact score of 69.9, ranking 70th in his position.

Kansas City will hope that Gilman will bounce back soon, as his veteran presence is important for their new secondary after the departures of Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and Bryan Cook.

The Chiefs are set to kick off the regular season at home Monday, Sept. 14, against the Denver Broncos.
