‘We Are Coming’ – XX-XY Athletics Founder Announces Next Rally in Support of Sophie Cunningham’s Trans-Athlete Stance After Shirt Cover-Up Controversy

The founder of XX-XY Athletes has announced the location of their next rally in support of Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.

XX-XY Athletics founder Jennifer Sey has announced the location of the next rally in support of Sophie Cunningham’s stance on transgender athletes.

The drama from Sunday’s nail-biter between the Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream extended beyond the court after a mother and daughter were allegedly asked to cover up their XX-XY Athletics apparel.

The Fever defeated the Dream 95-91 on Sunday, as Cunningham recorded three points and seven rebounds off the bench. Afterward, OutKick’s Jon Root shared a video on X, claiming that a mother and daughter duo wearing XX-XY Athletics apparel were asked to cover their shirts or risk being escorted out.

XX-XY Athletics is an apparel brand that advocates against the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports. Sey, a former gymnast and XX-XY Athletics founder, reacted to Root’s post on X.

Sey announced that she would be bringing a group to protest ahead of Saturday’s Fever vs. New York Liberty game.

“I will be attending the NY Liberty vs Indiana Fever game on August 22 at Barclay’s in NY. I’ve got a group I’ll be attending with. I suggest everyone wear their @xx_xyathletics shirts. @barclayscenter — we are coming. In love and truth. And XX-XY Athletics tees,” Sey wrote on X.

Cunningham has yet to react to the news. The Fever guard has faced significant criticism after voicing her views on trans athletes last month. The comments sparked a polarizing debate in the United States, with the WNBA at the center.

In addition to the criticism, Cunningham has also garnered support from those who agree with her stance on transgender athletes in women’s sports.

This also won’t be the first rally in support of Cunningham’s views. Rallies outside Fever games have become very popular, with fans both in support and against the cause holding demonstrations to make their voices heard.

Beyond the off-court controversies, Cunningham is enjoying one of the most efficient seasons of her career. She is averaging 8.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, shooting 47.9% and 44.5% from 3-point range, both career highs.
