‘Whose Idea Was This?’ — NFL Podcaster Calls Out Patriots Shirt That Didn’t Age Well After Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel Scandal

Tony Farmer spotted a Patriots “Faith Family” shirt still for sale after the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini controversy.

The New England Patriots have an officially licensed T-shirt built around three words that normally sound impossible to argue with: faith, family, and football.

After months of scrutiny surrounding Mike Vrabel and former NFL reporter Dianna Russini, podcaster Tony Farmer took one look at the shirt and had a question that practically wrote itself.

Tony Farmer Spots Patriots Shirt With Awkward Timing

“Whose idea was this?” Farmer wrote on X. “This is a real shirt in the NFL shop right now.”

The navy shirt is listed by NFL Shop as the “New England Patriots Navy Faith Family T Shirt.” Its design puts “FAITH FAMILY” in large red letters above the Patriots logo, with “NEW ENGLAND FOOTBALL” underneath.

In a vacuum, it is standard team merchandise. In August 2026, the wording lands a little differently.

Farmer has spent much of the offseason scrutinizing the controversy involving Vrabel and Russini. Photos published in April showed the Patriots head coach and Russini together at an Arizona resort. Russini later resigned in April, while Vrabel temporarily stepped away from the Patriots during the NFL Draft to begin counseling with his family.

The NFL declined to investigate Vrabel, and both sides have pushed back against some of the speculation surrounding the photos.

That history explains why Farmer found the shirt so striking. The design unintentionally places “faith” and “family” above “football” at a time when Vrabel has publicly discussed becoming a better husband, father, and coach.

There is also an important bit of context for anyone wondering whether somebody at the NFL Shop decided to tempt fate this summer. The shirt is not new.

The product was already listed months before the Vrabel and Russini controversy became public. It is, therefore, an older design that suddenly bought itself a much different audience.

Shirt Predates Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini Controversy

The shirt remains available for $34.99 and is officially licensed. Similar “Faith Family” merchandise is sold for other NFL teams as well, making clear that this is a broader apparel line rather than something designed specifically around Vrabel.

That did not stop the screenshot from becoming fresh material for social media.

Farmer hosts the “Last Men Standing” NFL survivor pool podcast and has repeatedly questioned how the league and media outlets handled the Vrabel and Russini situation. His recent league criticism focused on the NFL’s decision not to investigate Vrabel.

His latest post did not require another investigation or lengthy thread. Three words on a T-shirt did most of the work.

Vrabel has largely redirected questions toward football since returning to the team. He recently discussed continued improvement after he sought counseling in April.

The Patriots probably did not imagine their merchandise catalog would become part of the conversation.

To be fair, the shirt did nothing wrong. It simply had the misfortune of surviving long enough for its slogan to acquire a completely different punchline.
