‘Seek Help’ — Fever Reporter Doesn’t Mince Words About ‘Unhinged’ Caitlin Clark Fans

Fever reporter, James Boyd, goes off on so-called 'fans' for forming a toxic, "parasocial relationship" with Caitlin Clark.

Caitlin Clark, for all the good she’s done for the WNBA in terms of visibility and numbers, remains a subject of controversy.

James Boyd, a reporter for the Indiana Fever, doesn’t take too kindly to this one bit. He took to X to voice his frustrations with the toxic “parasocial relationship” fans have formed with CC over the past few years.

James Boyd Goes Off on Caitlin Clark ‘Fans’ for How They Treat Her Online

A certain sector of WNBA fans seemingly thrives off finding fault in anything and everything the league’s stars do. No star in the W is currently bigger than Clark.

James Boyd most recently came to Caitlin’s defense by calling the “parasocial relationship” fans have with her “unhinged.”

He continued by saying, “She has no idea of your existence, yet you’ve convinced yourself that *you* know exactly how she feels about every topic. Idiotic and dangerous. Seek help.”

This comes after Clark caught fire for staying mum on the ‘transgender athletes’ debate that’s taken the nation by storm. Instead of taking a hard stance on either side, she redirected attention to the basketball being played.

Clark admitted that it’s “not really a discussion” in the locker room.

“I’m trying to navigate playing at the highest level, and then you know sometimes you get asked a lot of questions, and sometimes that’s your responsibility,” Clark said. “Sometimes, you know, you want to keep the focus on basketball.”

Clark has provided the WNBA with unprecedented viewership. The 2024 season saw 170% growth in viewership compared to the season prior. This can be attributed to Clark being drafted first overall that very same year.

The discourse on whether transgender athletes should be allowed in the WNBA has gotten out of hand. Pestering league stars into having a firm stance on such a sensitive topic is certainly not the way to go.

Given Clark’s multiple endorsement deals, it’s unlikely she will have a stance that leans far enough on either side of the spectrum. It’s safe to say Cathy Engelbert and league executives have their hands full and rightfully so, as CC and the rest of the players should focus on what’s happening on WNBA hardwood.
