Going into the new season, fans expected Jayden Daniels to lock in and prepare after injuries disrupted his previous year. However, the Washington Commanders quarterback now finds himself caught in an unexpected controversy involving his alma mater, LSU.
As the situation continues to develop, Daniels has become a target for trolls across social media, with StubHub also taking a moment to jump in.
StubHub Trolls Jayden Daniels Over LSU Controversy
The shenanigans began after the Tigers handed cornerback DJ Pickett the No. 5 jersey, the same number Daniels wore during his time in Baton Rouge.
In response, Daniels’ legal team contacted LSU directly about the decision. His representatives told LSU that the school could no longer use his “name, image, and likeness” going forward.
ESPN sources reported that Daniels believes LSU has treated him differently from Joe Burrow, whose No. 9 jersey remains unused since he led LSU to the 2019 national championship. Just like Daniels, Burrow’s number is also not officially retired.
That contrast quickly became part of the online conversation, and StubHub decided to have some fun with it.
The ticket marketplace posted a picture with a mock policy change that claimed it would stop selling tickets in groups of five, specifically “out of respect” for Daniels.

The image showed a ticket selection page for the Sept. 27 Seahawks at Commanders matchup. Instead of offering five tickets, the options jumped from one, two, three, and four straight to six-plus.
“Effective immediately, we will no longer offer tickets in groups of 5. Out of respect for Jayden Daniels, we’re only doing 4 or 6+. Thank you for your understanding,” they wrote on X.
Amidst these trolls, the quarterback addressed the situation on Thursday.
“I have been locked in on training camp, and that’s been my number one focus. I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU, and I’m proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there,” Daniels remarked.
“Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU, and my hope is that it will get done privately.”
Daniels spent two seasons with LSU after transferring from Arizona State. Across 26 games, he completed 502 of 715 passes for 6,725 yards, 57 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 2,019 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 321 carries, making his time in Baton Rouge hard to overlook.
That production helped Daniels build a strong case before the Washington Commanders selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in 2024.
Before entering the NFL, he won the Heisman Trophy after a remarkable 2023 season. Daniels also posted a 99.4 impact score that year, according to PFN’s CFB QB Impact Metric. That remains the best quarterback score over the last seven seasons.
Daniels also said that his focus remained on the Commanders as the new season approaches. “I realize the business of football is unique, and I trust this can all be resolved,” he added.
Daniels won AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024, but injuries ended his 2025 campaign as Washington slipped to 5-12.
