It’s never a dull day in the Philadelphia Eagles’ building, as the NFL world witnessed on Wednesday night, when the franchise’s social media team shared a clip of Quinyon Mitchell intercepting a pass from Jalen Hurts.
While it’s understandable to celebrate the First-Team All-Pro’s effort, social media took it as the Eagles platforming Hurts’ interception to the masses.
After all the criticism and attention the Eagles QB has faced in the last couple of years, fans were quick to jump at his latest mistake. Some were left wondering why the Eagles would open up this can of worms for public display.
Philadelphia Eagles ‘Mocking’ Jalen Hurts Interception?
There’s no denying that the Eagles’ Pro Bowl cornerback is a talented player who made a great read on Hurts’ throw. Yet, this came across like a clip that could have excluded the player who threw the pass, while still heroing Mitchell’s effort. Only, that’s not what the Eagles’ social media team decided to do.
Instead, as KOA Colorado’s Benjamin Allbright pointed out, teams don’t usually share clips of their own starting quarterbacks throwing interceptions.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen an NFL team’s social media account just firing up clips of their own QB getting picked off,” wrote Allbright.

Former offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz couldn’t help but notice either, saying that it was an “Odd choice for a social media clip.”

Meanwhile, PHLY Sports’ EJ Smith saw no issue with what the Eagles’ social media team did. He suggests the team shouldn’t be “coddling” Hurts.

“The idea that the Eagles shouldn’t release a clip of Jalen Hurts throwing a pick to an All-Pro CB, especially one seemingly in part b/c of an imprecise route, is exactly the type of coddling approach that the org has been accused of in the past. Stop deifying QBs, people,” Smith wrote.

Yet, CBS Sports analyst Todd Fuhrman felt like the Eagles were asking for trouble with this one.

Meanwhile, Outkick’s Clay Travis suggested that by sharing the Hurts interception, the Eagles were “mocking their starting quarterback from the team’s official social media account.”

Nearly everyone seems to agree that what the Eagles did is just peculiar. Yet, perhaps this is the sort of thing that places an even bigger chip on the shoulder of Philadelphia’s three-time Pro Bowl QB.
