Tony Farmer Questions Jed York’s Silence After Kyle Shanahan’s Car Crash
Shanahan reportedly crashed his Tesla on July 14 in Palo Alto, California, after hitting an SUV driven by a 21-year-old woman. He suffered a concussion, a broken hand and nose, three broken ribs, and 40 stitches above his eye.
In response to that unanticipated disaster, Tony Farmer, the host of the “Last Men Standing” podcast, shared a pointed message about Shanahan’s condition and York’s lack of public comment. His post focused on the seriousness of the 49ers head coach’s injuries and the surrounding speculation.
“The 49ers’ head coach had broken ribs, a concussion, and injuries to his face and hand,” Farmer wrote. “I’d imagine he’s struggling emotionally too.”
Farmer then alluded to allegations surrounding Shanahan without identifying them. He wrote, “He’s also being accused of things I won’t dare type. And yet the 49ers owner has been silent. No words of support? Maybe Jed knows something we don’t know.”

Farmer did not provide evidence for that suggestion, and the 49ers have also not indicated that York’s silence reflects any undisclosed information or wrongdoing.
Earlier, former 49ers Pro Bowler Donte Whitner spoke out about the issue and separately questioned the organization’s decision to keep the accident private. Speaking on “The Grit Code Podcast,” Whitner argued that the situation raised broader questions about how the team treats players compared with coaches.
“If he wasn’t doing anything illegal, then it should have come out immediately,” Whitner said. “This is not about invading his privacy. It’s about whether the 49ers have one standard for players and another for the most powerful coach in the building.”
Whitner argued that incidents involving players often receive immediate scrutiny, while Shanahan’s situation remained private for more than a week. The delayed disclosure has also drawn criticism from Dan Patrick, who questioned why ESPN did not report the accident before the 49ers announced it publicly.
For now, Farmer’s comments remain speculation rather than evidence of any hidden issue involving York. Still, his question has added fresh speculation to the ongoing debate over Shanahan’s accident, the team’s transparency, and the unusual silence surrounding the incident.
