You can’t name the best quarterbacks to ever play without including Drew Brees. One of the league’s best ever got his moment to be immortalized in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He delivered an outstanding speech on the podium, culminating in the biggest achievement of his career, and the NFL world reacted on social media to Brees’ emotional speech.
NFL World Reacts to Drew Brees’ Hall of Fame Induction Speech
When Brees entered free agency after leaving the Chargers, he was deciding mostly between the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints. The Saints brought in head coach Sean Payton, who was able to convince Brees of the great things they could do and would eventually go on to do in New Orleans. Their success together was special, including their Super Bowl victory.
Brees made sure to thank Payton and got emotional when talking about their relationship.
“Coach, you were brilliant,” Brees said. “I saw myself as an extension of you on that field. I always had something to prove to you, and always wanted to make you right. And I know you trusted me, and that allowed us to be great.”

The NFL world reacted to Brees’ heartfelt words to his former head coach.

Like Larry Fitzgerald, Adam Vinatieri, Luke Kuechly, and Roger Craig, Brees’ speech lived up to expectations and likely exceeded many.

Brees has a different stature than many athletes in New Orleans because of what he accomplished with the Saints. He joined them soon after New Orleans had been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. His success with the Saints instantly united the city and elevated him to legendary status in New Orleans.

It’s no surprise he was showered with emotional reactions on social media.

After Brees delivered his speech, he was met with a standing ovation in Canton and an equally strong one on social media.

McClain wasn’t the only person to call it one of the greatest speeches, either, so Brees must’ve done something right.

Brees delivered at the podium just like he so often did on the football field.
The Saints are still searching for their next franchise QB and hope Tyler Shough will be that QB. It’s unreasonable to expect another Brees, because there are only a few in history who were as good as him. But the Saints are focused on celebrating their legend today and will return to the season ahead tomorrow.
