Philadelphia Eagles general manager/executive vice president Howie Roseman started his career with the franchise as an intern in 2000. Over the next 10 years, he advanced up the corporate ladder, becoming the team’s general manager in 2010. He has now spent 26 years with the franchise, and in that time in the top spot, the Eagles advanced to three Super Bowls, winning two.
As a result, he knows contracts and his players. Jalen Hurts, the team’s franchise quarterback, stands as one of Roseman’s better draft picks. Recently, Roseman sat down with media personality Kay Adams to talk about Hurts and what the team believes his future in Philadelphia is.

Today is Jalen Hurts’ 28th birthday. This training camp is his seventh as a member of the Eagles. Hurts is a three-time Pro Bowler. Yet, with all those accolades, questions remain about whether he is the right fit in Philadelphia. As mentioned, Roseman sat down with Adams to discuss his quarterback on the “Up & Adams Show.”
“I think when you’re around somebody for as long as you’ve been around, you’ve got a pretty good feel for who the person is, who the player is,” Roseman said. “And at the same time, just like I’m talking about improving, he’s looking to improve in all aspects.”

Roseman signaled his faith in his quarterback’s ability to work on his game. Last season, Hurts connected on 64.8% of his passes, his lowest percentage since 2021.

Moreover, the yards per attempt fell to 7.1, the lowest of his entire career. According to PFN’s QB Impact Metric, Hurts posted an impact score of 76.2 last season, ranking 16th in the league. It was a big step back for the Eagles star, who in 2024 ranked sixth in the league with an impact score of 85.3.
Roseman also mentioned the hovering pessimism surrounding Hurts and how the signal-caller finds a way to push through.
“He’s been thrown a lot of different offense coordinators at him, and he hasn’t blinked, you know,” Roseman added. “The guy continually overcomes adversity. Constantly has doubters. Constantly has to reprove himself every year, and never complains about it.”

On top of that, a very public issue between him and former Eagles wideout A.J. Brown led many to take sides, with some choosing the wide receiver. It led to Brown getting traded to the New England Patriots, but Roseman believes that Hurts is the quarterback to lead the team because of his play and intangibles.
“I’m excited for him, you know, with the players that he has around him,” Roseman continued. “I’m excited for him with the leadership opportunities he’s taken him around with. I’m excited for him with our new coaching staff, you know, and that’s not a reflection on anyone who’s left.”
Roseman concluded by saying, “But I think all these things are fun, you know, and they’re fun to watch as we go through it. And, you know, we are a work in progress. But luckily, we don’t have a game for a long time.”
Hurts, due to his tenure and the position he plays, is the leader of the Eagles. He learned at the knee of players like Jason Kelce on offense and Fletcher Cox on defense what it meant to play for the team in one of the most demanding sports cities in the NFL.
Hurts’ contract runs through the 2028 season but carries no guarantees after 2026, which is why there are rumors the team could move on from him if he struggles. However, Roseman’s comments and demeanor lend credence to the belief that Hurts will remain a member of the Eagles for years to come.
