Macklin Celebrini has strengthened his place at the center of the San Jose Sharks’ future after signing a historic contract extension that has drawn attention across the NHL. The blockbuster deal highlights both the franchise’s commitment to its young star and the league’s rapidly changing financial landscape.

During a recent episode of Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, Brady did not hesitate to celebrate Celebrini’s new five-year, $94 million extension with the Sharks.
Before discussing the details, Brady made his feelings clear by saying, “Macklin Celebrini, just a shoutout. Let’s give him a round of applause.”
He followed that by praising the value of the contract itself, saying, “This contract, in my opinion, is already undervalued. This guy deserves absolutely every cent.”
Matthew shared a similar opinion while focusing on another eye-catching aspect of the extension. “Celebrini is in a league of his own,” Matthew said before joking about the structure of the agreement. “I think the craziest thing for me to see is the signing bonus. If that’s all coming on July 1, oh my God, that is going to be one hell of a party.”
Brady quickly joined in, adding, “I want to be with Macklin on July 1. If it all comes on July 1, I want to find a way to be in the same spot as him just to see what kind of party we can get ourselves into.”
Although the conversation was playful, the contract itself carries significant implications for San Jose.
Celebrini remains on the final season of his entry-level contract in 2026-27 with a cap hit of just $975,000, meaning the Sharks have five years of Celebrini with the new extension. His $18.8 million cap hit will not take effect until the 2027-28 season, giving management another year to shape the roster.
The timing also helps the organization prepare for the financial jump. Veteran contracts, including Logan Couture’s $8 million cap hit, will expire before Celebrini’s extension begins, while additional deals coming off the books will create even more flexibility.
At the same time, the NHL salary cap is projected to continue rising, reducing the percentage of team payroll consumed by Celebrini’s contract over time.

After signing the extension, Celebrini emphasized his commitment to the franchise’s future.
“I couldn’t be happier to sign an extension today,” he said.
“The faith and support that Mr. Plattner, Mike Grier, and the entire staff have shown me throughout the past two seasons is proof that we are building something special here. My teammates and I are ready to take another step toward the ultimate goal of bringing a Stanley Cup to this city and its incredible fans. I can’t wait to get going.”
