Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, has been competing with veteran Deshaun Watson for the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback role in the 2026 NFL season.
Since the start of Shedeur’s NFL career, he has received a lot of attention, both good and bad, which many analysts credit to his popular last name.
When the Colorado head coach visited his son at the Browns’ training camp, the story garnered significant noise.
Pat McAfee Reacts to Deion Sanders’ Browns Training Camp Appearance Amid Criticism
Coach Prime and Shedeur received significant negative attention when the Colorado head coach expressed his desire to meet Browns head coach Todd Monken a couple of months ago.
While Monken said he would love to meet with Deion, many analysts expressed frustration with the situation and advised Coach Prime to stay out of his son’s business.
Now that Coach Prime finally visited his son during the Browns training camp festivities on Thursday, the story made headlines again, as many people didn’t appreciate his presence in Cleveland.
Talking about the situation, Pat McAfee shared his thoughts on his show and said:

“I think if you were to ask any NFL coach if Deion Sanders would be welcome at their practice, first ballot hall of famer, one of the greatest athletes and football players ever to play, I think every coach would say, ‘Yeah, I think we’d let,’ and guess what? When Peyton Manning’s son is potentially going into a team, I assume Peyton’s going to be welcomed at a lot of training camps as well and allowed to walk on the field,” McAfee said.
“I think a lot of people have forgotten who the [expletive] Deion Sanders is. Like, I think people see him as potentially the coach of Colorado and maybe down there at Jackson’s (State) or whatever the case is. This is one of the greatest football players that has ever existed in every league that he has ever played in.”

McAfee added that he thinks the immediate response to Coach Prime being at the training camp is “fascinating.”
“Because his son is competing for the job, there’s a negative that comes from it.”
McAfee further said he hates to break it to the critics that Deion will be welcome at any training camp, Browns or some other team’s, because of the stature he holds in the league.
Shedeur was drafted as the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft; however, he was widely predicted to go in the top 10 in early projections.
The Browns quarterback finished his rookie season throwing for 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while being ranked as the second-worst quarterback (63.0 QBi) in the league, according to PFN’s QB Impact Metric.
