Justin Herbert is engaged to Madison Beer, and one of the first people to celebrate was the wife of his No. 1 wide receiver, Ladd McConkey.
The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback and the Grammy-nominated pop star announced the engagement on Tuesday in a joint Instagram post, with Beer captioning a set of photos “meet my fiancé.” Sydney McConkey, Ladd’s wife, couldn’t contain her excitement.
What Did Sydney McConkey Say to Justin Herbert, Madison Beer?
Sydney immediately jumped into the replies with a run of exclamation points and a simple comment: “YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! … I can feel the love radiating through the screen.”
Sydney and Madison built a real friendship over the past year, trading comments on birthday posts and album announcements while their partners shared a locker room. When Beer unveiled the tracklist for her album “Locket” last winter, McConkey was right there to show support once again.
Sydney and Madison’s relationship mirrors the special connection between Herbert and McConkey. Ladd is the receiver whom Herbert trusts most, and he is Los Angeles’ WR1 entering the 2026 season. That means the woman cheering loudest for Herbert’s engagement is married to the other half of the Chargers’ one-two punch.

Beer has spoken openly about how fast this took hold. The couple started dating last August and quickly fell for each other. In June, Beer went on “Therapuss with Jake Shane” and opened up about her relationship with Herbert and how it’s different from her past boyfriends.
“When I’m having a convo with my boyfriend, my hair could be on fire, and I wouldn’t notice,” Beer said. “And to be honest with you, he’s the first person I’ve ever felt that way about… Like, the world can be ending around me, and I wouldn’t know.
“I think that I also am at a point in my life where I’m like, ‘What do I really want for my future? Do I want to just like [expletive] around forever?’ Like, no, I don’t. I know what I want. And I feel like that was also really big with us meeting. Like it felt like he was, I don’t know, like he just came into my life at, like, the perfect time.”

She admitted that for their early dates, they just stayed home because “we were just, like, scared to go in public; we were nervous.”
By October, they were courtside at Los Angeles Lakers games, and she was attending Chargers games. Now, the couple is engaged and preparing to tie the knot.
Herbert Enters Year 7 With Mike McDaniel and His Personal Life Settled
Herbert reports to training camp this week for his seventh season, his first under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
Herbert skipped the first two weeks of OTAs this spring to support Beer’s European tour, and he took some heat for it. However, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh publicly backed his quarterback, and the noise died down. Now, Herbert’s home life is settled, and he is locked in.
McDaniel has said he doesn’t believe Herbert has come close to his ceiling. Last season, Herbert posted a 75.1 QB Impact Score, which ranked 18th among all eligible quarterbacks. The previous season, he ranked 14th with a 78.9 QBi grade.

Herbert has never won a playoff game, so he’ll be looking to end that postseason drought this season. After three Wild Card exits in four years, Herbert is determined to show what he can do on football’s biggest stage, especially since the offense managed just 15 combined points across its past two postseason losses. McDaniel was hired to fix that, and it will be on Herbert, McConkey, and Co. to execute his electrifying offense.
For years, Herbert was known for guarding his private life. Now, he is engaged, and his support system couldn’t be happier.
While Herbert has a wedding ring in his future, he and Ladd are hoping to earn another ring come February.
