‘It Is Utterly Shameful’ — Former Eagles LB Blasts NFL Executives, Coaches for ‘Disrespectful’ Jalen Hurts Ranking

Jalen Hurts isn't for everyone. But one former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker believes the disrespect toward Hurts is going way too far.

Jalen Hurts is a bit of a controversial figure in the NFL. Chances are, you either love him or hate him. There’s rarely an in-between.

Critics might say the Philadelphia Eagles win in spite of him. Others would argue that Hurts has never led a losing season as the starting QB in Philadelphia. Now, thanks to ESPN’s annual survey of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, we know how the league’s decision-makers feel about the Super Bowl-winning QB.

Eagles LB Mad at Jalen Hurts Ranking 17th Among NFL QBs

One way to get NFL analysts and fan bases riled up is to rank the best players at each position. Naturally, no other position is more hotly debated than QB.

ESPN recently polled NFL executives, coaches, and scouts on the best quarterbacks in the NFL. To the surprise of some, Hurts didn’t rank in the top 10. His name couldn’t be found until the end of the honorable mentions, where he’d technically rank 17th among quarterbacks.

Reacting to the list via the “Speakeasy” podcast, NFL analyst and former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho found Hurts’ ranking to be “disrespectful.”

“Of all the ways in which Jalen Hurts has been disrespected, ranking him 17th on the NFL quarterback list is probably the most disrespectful,” Acho said. “It is utterly shameful to have Jalen Hurts ranked behind quarterbacks that don’t even have playoff wins, Justin Herbert. It is utterly shameful to have Hurts ranked next to quarterbacks like Daniel Jones and Bo Nix.”

Continuing his defense, Acho went on to list some of Hurts’ accolades, such as being a Super Bowl MVP, being a Second-Team All-Pro selection, and leading the Eagles to the playoffs all five seasons of his starting career.

Of course, Hurts’ play style isn’t for everyone. Yet, the results, a 57-25 regular-season record as the Eagles’ QB, cannot be denied. After all, he’s one of the few QBs who now have a Super Bowl ring and still are in a position to potentially add to that total in the upcoming season.

According to PFN’s QB Impact Metric, Hurts finished among the league’s top eight quarterbacks for three straight seasons from 2022 to 2024. Even last year, he ranked 16th in the league, ahead of the likes of Herbert, Nix, and Caleb Williams.

While Hurts may not post the gaudiest numbers, he’s proven to be a winner with the Eagles to this point. Maybe more credit should be given to head coach Nick Sirianni for building such a strong scheme. Or maybe general manager Howie Roseman should get the praise for putting together a consistently strong roster.

Yet, the Eagles are doing all of this as a team, and Hurts has been a focal part of that effort. Eventually, he deserves to get more credit, too.
