‘It Would Be Cool’ — Josh Allen Teases Post-NFL Career Plans, Reveals 1 Occupation That ‘Gets a Little Murky’

Bills quarterback Josh Allen opens up about a possible broadcasting career after football, explaining why one part of the job gives him pause.

As Josh Allen prepares for his ninth NFL season, his attention remains fixed on football despite thinking about what could come after retirement. Although the quarterback remains under contract with the Buffalo Bills through 2030, he admitted the next phase has crossed his mind.

During an appearance on the CNBC Sports podcast, he revealed that broadcasting is one path he could realistically consider after leaving the game.

Josh Allen Revealed His Opinion On Taking On the Broadcasting Role After Retirement

Allen also made it clear that he would only embrace that role under the right circumstances.

“I do think it would be cool if you can keep it from a strictly broadcasting angle,” Allen recently told Alex Sherman of CNBC, per Pro Football Talk. “When players go from players to journalists and say certain things that they hated people saying about them, I think that’s where it gets a little murky for me.”

Rather than chasing stories that players prefer to keep private or firing off uncomfortable questions, Allen sees the job as breaking down the game itself. He believes an analyst can point out mistakes without crossing into unfair criticism.

His years under center would give him the perspective to explain decisions and strategy in real time. Still, Allen admitted the idea remains on his mind, but he continues to weigh both sides before making any decision.

“But I do think that it would be something I would entertain. I can’t say for sure ‘yes’ or for sure ‘no’ right now, because I do go back and forth on it. But yeah, I’d have to put some more thought into it.”

If Allen eventually joins television, he will follow a familiar path taken by several elite quarterbacks. Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Troy Aikman, and Drew Brees all built successful broadcasting careers after playing. Meanwhile, Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Robert Griffin III, and Terry Bradshaw found long-term homes in studio roles.

For now, though, the focus is on chasing another deep playoff run with the Bills. They are also entering a fresh chapter under head coach Joe Brady, and the front office spent the offseason adding talent around its franchise quarterback.

After Allen captured the 2024 NFL MVP award and once again carried Buffalo through the regular season and into the playoffs, giving him more support became a clear priority.

And of course, Allen remains in the middle of his prime and enters the new campaign as a legitimate MVP contender once again.

Last season, he completed 69.3% of his passes by going 319-for-460 for 3,668 yards. He also threw 25 touchdowns against only 10 interceptions. According to PFN’s QB Impact Metric, he posted an impact score of 80.3, ranking ninth in the league.

The Bills will report to training camp on July 21, marking the beginning of another important season. With fresh weapons, high expectations, and an MVP-level quarterback leading the way, all eyes will be on how Buffalo responds when the new campaign gets underway.
