Bobby Wagner Landing Spots: 5 NFL Teams That Could Pursue the 10-Time Pro Bowler Before Training Camp

Future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner is still looking for a new team. Which NFL franchises should be making a move?

Seattle Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner is approaching his 15th NFL season, having just turned 36 years old in June. Far from slowing down, though, Wagner played 99% of defensive snaps for the Washington Commanders in 2025.

The production was still there, too. The veteran tallied 162 combined tackles, his most since a franchise-record 183 in 2023, his joint-third-most sacks (4.5), and tied his second-best interceptions tally with 2.

Still, the 10-time Pro Bowler remains a free agent, but which teams should be pursuing him ahead of September?

5 Potential Landing Spots for Bobby Wagner in Free Agency

Despite Wagner’s impressive numbers last season and his frightening longevity, it would be fair to suggest he’s nearing the end of his career. With that in mind, I’ve focused on contending teams in this list, with several intriguing options for the future Hall of Famer.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are still here, still trying to get over the hump and win a Super Bowl with Josh Allen. But while Allen isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, at 30 years old, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him slow down over the next few seasons.

The 2024 MVP will still be a stellar quarterback on arm talent alone, but the Bills’ Super Bowl chances slide a little with each passing year. The team lost nine-year Bill Matt Milano to free agency and could bring him back, but Wagner would be an upgrade for a team that needs to be aggressive.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have considerably less urgent need for a title, but despite sitting on the precipice of a new era, they still have a few veterans to feed in the short term. Travis Kelce is the obvious name, while Chris Jones is a potential cap casualty next year, and head coach Andy Reid won’t be around forever.

The Chiefs rejuvenated their defense in the draft, spending all of their first four picks on that side of the ball. The team lost Leo Chenal to the Washington Commanders in free agency, though, leaving an opening in the middle of the field. Wagner could head in the opposite direction to replace Chenal and add another veteran presence behind Jones.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars turned heads last season with some stellar performances under new head coach Liam Coen. Anthony Campanile had the defense firing, and Trevor Lawrence finally started to put it all together in Coen’s offensive system.

Defense was the clear winner in the AFC last season, though, with the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos battling it out for a place in the Super Bowl. That won’t be lost on Jacksonville, which lost Devin Lloyd to the Carolina Panthers in free agency.

Lloyd was exceptional in 2025, with a 99-yard pick-six the highlight of his year. Wagner is unlikely to replicate that in 2026, but his 84.4 LB Impact Grade ranked 8th among all linebackers in 2025, four spots ahead of Lloyd in 12th (81.5).

Dallas Cowboys

However, if Wagner wants to stay in the NFC, and indeed the NFC East, the Dallas Cowboys could be a perfect fit. In a single year, Dallas has transformed its overly generous, at times hopeless defense into a really strong unit that could sustain a Super Bowl push.

Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams arrived via trades to lock up the interior, before Rashan Gary joined former Green Bay Packers teammate Clark in Dallas back in March. Meanwhile, safeties Jalen Thompson (free agency) and Caleb Downs (first-round draft pick) give Dallas one of the best safety rooms in the NFL overnight.

Edge rusher Malachi Lawrence and linebacker Jaishawn Barham also joined in the draft, while star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will hope to be back to his best in 2026. That still leaves an open spot at linebacker, and Wagner’s experience, leadership, and all-around play make him the perfect candidate to step into a vastly improved unit.

Los Angeles Rams

Finally, if Wagner wants to prioritize a second Super Bowl over anything else, a second stint in Los Angeles could be the answer. The Los Angeles Rams are going all-in for another Super Bowl before Matthew Stafford retires, as evidenced by their ultra-aggressive offseason moves.

In trading for Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie, the Rams gave up two first-round picks (2026 and 2027), a second-round pick (2028), two third-round picks (2027 and 2029), and a fifth and sixth-round pick (both 2026). Not only that, but the team sent two-time Pro Bowler and 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year, Jared Verse, to the Cleveland Browns in the trade for Garrett.

Sean McVay is doing everything he can to earn another ring in the short term, and the Rams are the dream landing spot for any player looking for success. Wagner would be a short-term upgrade on Omar Speights, the former UDFA who has become a starter for the Rams at linebacker.
