As the calendar turns the page to July, there’s not a lot going on inside the NFL. Outside the NFL, there are plenty of storylines, whether it’s Travis Kelce’s wedding or Brandon Aiyuk’s never-ending story.
But now that the Kelce-Swift wedding is in the rearview mirror, the focus of attention can be turned back to Aiyuk. That seems to be exactly what the San Francisco 49ers receiver wants, even if it may be against his best interest.
Jeremy Fowler Questions Brandon Aiyuk’s Support System
It seems that the more Aiyuk stays in the spotlight with what feels like almost daily drops of social media videos, the worse his career outlook gets. Previous reports indicated that Aiyuk could be an ideal fit to reunite with former college QB Jayden Daniels with the Washington Commanders, but after going after his old pal on social media, Aiyuk may have burned the one bridge he had left for a second chance elsewhere.
Now, ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler can’t help but wonder what’s going on with the 49ers receiver’s support system. In essence, where are the people in Aiyuk’s corner who can give him the proper advice?
“Where are the people who love him in his life and in his circle that can take that phone and put it in a safe somewhere? ‘Cause it just continues to get worse,” Fowler asked on “NFL Live” on Monday. “If you’re Washington, you can go sign Keenan Allen or Stefon Diggs, who would be less of a headache right now to bring in. The Washington Commanders don’t really need this at this point.”

As much as Aiyuk made sense for the Commanders on paper, Fowler brings up a very valid point. Washington simply doesn’t need the drama associated with Aiyuk, especially considering he hasn’t played football since October 2024.
Allen doesn’t have any drama surrounding him, and while Diggs may have an interesting life outside of football, he doesn’t seem to bring that to the field with him. While the 28-year-old Aiyuk may offer more long-term potential, he also brings risk. Those same risks wouldn’t be included with Allen and/or Diggs.

Plus, unlike Aiyuk, Allen and Diggs actually played football last season, and both were productive. The 34-year-old recorded 777 yards and 4 touchdowns in 17 appearances with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Diggs, 32, is coming off a 1,013-yard, 4-touchdown season, his seventh season over the 1,000-yard barrier in the past eight seasons. Not to mention, Diggs is even a Maryland native. It’s almost too good to be true.
