‘The Crazy Part…’ — Skylar Diggins Makes Feelings Clear on Sky’s Surprising Decision to Bring Her Off the Bench

Chicago Sky guard Skylar Diggins expressed her frustration after being told that she would be coming off the bench.

Chicago Sky guard Skylar Diggins is expressing her frustration publicly after being asked to come off the bench.

Diggins has started in all 19 of the Sky’s games this season, but after the coaches told her they planned to make her a reserve, she took to social media to respond.

Skylar Diggins Reacts to New Reserve Role With Chicago

After two years with the Seattle Storm, Diggins joined the Sky as a free agent during the offseason. She signed a two-year contract as the Sky completed a roster overhaul. However, things haven’t gone according to plan so far this season.

The Sky are languishing in 13th place in the WNBA standings with a 6-14 record. Diggins has fared decently in a starting role, averaging 14.2 points, 4.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game.

However, the Sky is planning a major lineup change, and Diggins was quick to make it clear she was not happy with the decision.

Diggins questioned the Sky’s plans to bring her off the bench, writing on her Instagram story, “Now I’m coming off the bench??? Cool.”

Then, she uploaded a video to her Instagram story.

“And the crazy part about it all is that I’ve been so quiet. I’ve been so good and quiet,” she said in the video, with the on-screen text reading, “To whom it may concern.”

Sky head coach Tyler Marsh has yet to comment on the purported lineup change. However, the change could be related to Courtney Vandersloot’s return from a torn ACL. The guard has come off the bench in the last three games for the Sky, and could now slot into the starting lineup.

Diggins, who is a seven-time WNBA All-Star and 2020 Olympic gold medalist, has posted solid numbers this season and leads the team in assists and steals.

However, this is not the first time Diggins has shared her frustration with how things are going in Chicago. The 35-year-old called out the team’s “loser mentality” last month and also claimed they needed to show greater maturity on the court.

“We gotta have more maturity and more leadership on and off the floor,” Diggins said after the loss against the Toronto Tempo. “If it was just versus one team, I’d understand that, but now it’s been struggles. That’s a trend of ours. … The games ain’t gonna slow down, and teams gone keep getting better and better around us, so we gotta figure out how we’re gonna turn this corner here. It’s been an extremely frustrating experience.”

Diggins, who has been a starter for the majority of her career, now faces an uncertain road with a team reeling from an underwhelming season amid high expectations.

The Sky will be in action next tomorrow as they face the Phoenix Mercury on the road, with tip-off at 10 p.m. ET.
