‘He’d Prefer To Play With (Brock) Purdy’ — NFL Analyst Makes Case For Maxx Crosby Being Open To 49ers Trade

NFL analyst Grant Cohn suggested that Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby would welcome a trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

NFL star Maxx Crosby’s future still hangs in the balance after an eventful offseason for the talented defensive end. The Las Vegas Raiders had agreed to a trade for Crosby with the Baltimore Ravens in March before the defensive end failed his physicals, leading the AFC North team to back out of the agreement.

Maxx Crosby Linked to 49ers Move

In his latest article, Sports Illustrated’s NFL analyst Grant Cohn, who covers the San Francisco 49ers, suggested that Crosby could be open to a trade to the 49ers to play with quarterback Brock Purdy over Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles.

“It stands to reason that the Raiders still would like to trade Crosby when a good deal presents itself. And Raiders On SI publisher Hondo Carpenter recently reported that the 49ers’ interest in trading for Crosby is “nuclear hot.” Crosby seems to be a huge fan of Purdy,” Cohn said. “I’m guessing the 49ers want to offer the Raiders a first-round pick, a second-round pick and Mykel Williams in exchange for Crosby.

“I’m guessing the Raiders would like to see Williams return from his ACL injury before making such a trade. In addition, another team, such as the Eagles could outbid the 49ers for Crosby. Still, if Crosby had his wishes, I’m guessing he’d prefer to play with Purdy as opposed to Jalen Hurts, who got outplayed by Purdy in the playoffs last season.”

Crosby agreed to a three-year, $106.5 million contract extension, with $91.5 million guaranteed with the Raiders in 2025, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league at the time.

In an interview after Purdy was ranked No. 85 in the NFL’s Top 100 players earlier this week, Crosby lavished praise on the 49ers quarterback.

“Anybody who gets in that Niners system, people find a way to discredit them just because of how good Kyle Shanahan is, and they’ve always had a lot of talent around him,” Crosby said.

“But you’ve seen Brock in his own right make some plays and do certain things that are just system-quarterback-type plays. He’s one of the better young quarterbacks in the league. He’s talented. You see that with how great that offense is able to operate.”

Since being selected No. 106 overall by the Raiders during the 2019 NFL Draft, Crosby has earned five Pro Bowl nods and two second-team All-Pro selections.

Crosby tallied 73 total tackles (45 solo), two forced fumbles, 10 sacks, and one interception for the Raiders last season, earning a PFN Edge Rusher Impact score of 89.3, ranking him No. 5 in the league.

He would be a great addition to the 49ers, who are going all in for the Super Bowl. After signing Mike Evans, trading for Crosby would be a strong counter to the Los Angeles Rams’ blockbuster addition of Myles Garrett.
