‘I Was Refused’ – Matteo Berrettini Details Why Wimbledon Rejected His Walk-On Outfit Unlike Taylor Fritz’s

Matteo Berrettini reveals strict Wimbledon rules forced him to abandon his custom outfit, unlike Taylor Fritz, who is also sponsored by BOSS.

From Naomi Osaka’s eye-catching all-white kimono to Novak Djokovic’s custom Lacoste jacket, special walk-on outfits have become a standout trend at Wimbledon. Taylor Fritz also turned heads in a stylish BOSS ensemble, while fellow BOSS athlete Matteo Berrettini was denied the chance to make a similar splash.

Why Wimbledon Rejected Matteo Berrettini’s BOSS Jacket

No. 6 seed Fritz stole the spotlight at the grass-court Major, arriving for his first-round match against Dušan Lajović in a sharp all-white BOSS suit reminiscent of Roger Federer’s iconic 2007 Wimbledon look.

After his dominant 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win, the American joined the Tennis Channel panel and opened up about his outfit. He also revealed his amusing conversation with Frances Tiafoe about the pressure of living up to such a grand entrance.

“BOSS came to me with that idea and concept. I thought it looked good. I was talking about this with Frances [Tiafoe] the other day because he was coming out in a bit of an outfit, too. And we said, you know, you come out an in outfit, you just got to make sure you don’t go down in the first round because you look really stupid,” Fritz said.

Unlike Fritz, Berrettini was forced to abandon his plans for a custom walk-on outfit. Following his 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win over Arthur Fils in the second round, the Italian disclosed that he had also planned to wear a chic BOSS jacket at SW19, but it was rejected for violating the All England Club’s strict all-white dress code.

“Yeah, there was an option actually, but I got refused by Wimbledon because it wasn’t white enough. It was like a little bit off-white and then on the collar, it was a little bit brownish. I don’t know. I mean I I’ve seen it once. So there was an option but they didn’t let me do it and it’s okay. I mean we get to see it at some point. No, no, you you could see it actually on my social media. I posted it about it. I did a shooting with that, but yeah, unfortunately I couldn’t go on court with that,” he said.
