Lonzo Ball’s family has been under the microscope since well before he even entered the NBA. His father, LaVar Ball, certainly made a name for himself with his rather boisterous personality.
Recently, LaVar announced that he and his wife, Tina, had split up after nearly 30 years of marriage. In light of his parents’ divorce announcement, Lonzo decided to set the record straight on a few things.
Lonzo Ball Clears Up Misconceptions on Parents’ Divorce
During his appearance on the “Ball in the Family” podcast, Lonzo spoke about what happened leading up to his parents’ divorce. The details are a tad vague, but Lonzo shed some light on the situation while clearing up some of the misconceptions.
“First and foremost, I want to say I love both my parents, but the situation that has been put before y’all is not how it went down,” Lonzo said. “…Long story short, my mom didn’t want to leave. She was ‘[expletive] near forced to leave.’ I helped her leave. I’m glad she left. She’s in a great spot… She’s good. My pops is good. They obviously don’t [expletive] with each other, but I’ll [expletive] with ’em both, and she was not wrong at all.”
Lonzo later clarified that LaVar’s medical issues didn’t factor into what happened. Last year, LaVar had his foot amputated due to complications related to diabetes and a foot infection.
“She did not leave him because he left because he lost his foot. That’s a myth that was put out there…” Lonzo said. “My dad did a great job raising us. My mom did a great job raising us. They didn’t work out, and it is what it is. They’re both doing well, and I love ’em both.”
Lonzo Ball speaks on his parents’ Lavar & Tina’s divorce, explaining that his Mom did NOT want to leave and it wasn’t because Lavar lost his foot, but she was actually “forced” to leave and Lonzo helped her 😮👀

Lonzo and his family have been under heavy scrutiny because of LaVar’s antics before and after he was drafted in 2017. That eventually died down, and LaVar has stayed out of the spotlight in recent years.
An unintended consequence of public drama like this is that many will speculate about what happened, even though it’s really nobody’s business. Lonzo deserves props for acknowledging it and for sharing some details without explicitly saying what happened.
It’s been a rough go of it for Lonzo. After his knee issues kept him out of the league for two-and-a-half years, his brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers ended with him traded and then waived after just 35 games. Now, there are questions about his NBA future.
There’s no telling what happens next, but at least he’s taking everything in stride.
