People are still talking about the incident that occurred during last Monday’s game between the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury involving Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and DeWanna Bonner.
During the game, after Clark and Bonner exchanged trash talk, Cunningham and Bonner got into another altercation, with cameras capturing Cunningham in a finger-pointing standoff.
The clip of the moment went viral, and the White House got involved by adding a clip of President Donald Trump pointing his finger.
Sophie Cunningham’s Viral Moment Gets White House Crossover
President Trump isn’t necessarily known as a big basketball fan, though the Queens native did attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden.
However, the interesting mashup of Cunningham addressing the viral moment on her podcast and Trump pointing his finger sparked a wave of reactions across social media.

“Genuinely surprised it took this long for the most online white house to weigh in on the most online league,” WNBA analyst Seerat Sohi commented.

The incident involving Cunningham during the Fever-Mercury game last Monday wasn’t a one-off.
Two days later, the two teams met again, and things got even more tense. During a scrum for a loose ball, Clark went down to the ground, and Phoenix star Alyssa Thomas drove her fist into Clark’s throat.

Thomas was initially fined $1,000 by the WNBA, sparking outrage, especially since Clark has been the target of rough and even dirty antics by a number of players over the last couple of years.
Thomas was also suspended for one game, but in the eyes of many, the damage has been done, as the feeling is that the WNBA hasn’t taken reasonable steps to protect Clark.
On Tuesday, Thomas also addressed the online abuse she received in the aftermath of the controversial incident involving Clark.
The six-time All-Star said she was not aware of her suspension until 10 minutes before the announcement on social media and also demanded accountability from the WNBA, citing the online threats players faced.
