Cape Verde GK Vozinha Became a ‘Legend in an Hour’: NFL Analyst Kay Adams

The Spaniards entered their match against Cape Verde as strong favorites, featuring some of Europe’s top talent, such as Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Dani Olmo. The Blue Sharks, on the other hand, entered the contest with a humble stable of players who knew they were up against the odds in Atlanta.

To no one’s surprise, the game went much like fans expected, with Spain launching attack after attack on a frail Cape Verde defense. Shot after shot, Luis de la Fuente’s men hammered at the Blue Sharks’ box with no hesitation.

But nothing went in.

From the Cape Verde shadows emerged a seasoned veteran of 14 years who showed up on a fateful Monday night.

Forty-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha.

In the unlikeliest of events, the keeper faced an unprecedented 23 shots on the night.

None passed.

The veteran’s act of valor sent shockwaves across the landscape, garnering praise from millions, including NFL analyst Kay Adams.

“[Spain] couldn’t do [expletive], and it was all Vozinha,” she said on “Up & Adams.” “And yesterday stood, my friend, as a day and an answer to the age-old question of ‘When can a tie be a cool thing? When is it cool to have a tie?’ Forty-year-old Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha — one name — he blanked Spain. And it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, they didn’t score.’ They were attacking him. They were the Bolton Army against one Jon Snow with a sword.”

The Blue Sharks faced an onslaught unlike any they had seen in a long time, but the steel curtain of Vozinha remained impenetrable. Spain dominated possession with a 74-26 split and 11 corner kicks — none of which was enough to topple the veteran keeper.

“What other sport can you become a legend in the matter of an hour?” Adams added. “When we are roaming around like the Jetsons — I’m talking generations from now — his name will stand for something. Vozinha is going to be a legend not just for this time… For the World Cup, for soccer fans — everyone will have a reverence for him.”

Vozinha’s heroics will stand as a beacon of hope as the Blue Sharks tackle the remainder of their schedule, which includes more tough matchups against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
