Former Oilers Star Taylor Hall Sends Connor McDavid a Message After Hurricanes’ 2026 Stanley Cup Win

The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions once again. Carolina captured its first Stanley Cup since 2006 by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6, securing a 4-2 series victory.

While the celebration belonged to the Hurricanes, one postgame comment from veteran winger Taylor Hall quickly caught the attention of hockey fans, especially those in Edmonton.

Taylor Hall’s Message to Oilers Star Connor McDavid

Hall played a key role in Carolina’s championship-clinching victory.

Just 3:47 into the first period, the veteran winger opened the scoring by burying a rebound and sending the T-Mobile Arena crowd into a frenzy. Jackson Blake added another goal in the second period before Nikolaj Ehlers put the game away in the third as Carolina completed the shutout victory.

Supported by a disciplined defensive effort, the Hurricanes smothered Vegas’ offense and closed out the series in convincing fashion. Carolina finished the playoffs with an impressive 16-3 record, the fewest losses by a Stanley Cup champion since the 1988 Edmonton Oilers.

But after lifting the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career, Hall’s thoughts wandered to his previous franchise.

Hall said, “If there is anyone who deserves to win a Stanley Cup, it’s him, McDavid.”

The comment carried extra meaning given the history between the two players.

Hall was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2010 and spent the early years of his career with the franchise. When Connor McDavid arrived as the first overall pick in 2015, Hall was already one of Edmonton’s top players. The two played together for just one season before Hall was traded to the New Jersey Devils.

Their careers then took very different directions.

Hall won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in 2018 but spent the following years with several teams before finally winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina. McDavid remains in Edmonton, collecting MVP awards, scoring titles, and setting records, but still searching for his first championship.

After finally lifting the Stanley Cup, Hall admitted he never expected his journey to unfold the way it did. “You never know. You never know what kind of turn your life’s going to take. It was heavy. It was heavy, unbalanced, but amazing,” Hall said.

Hall made sure to share the moment with his longtime teammates as well. “It’s an amazing group. I’m really happy for the guys who have been here for so long. They deserve it so much,” he added.

For Oilers fans, Hall’s comments are a reminder that winning the Stanley Cup is never easy. It took him 16 seasons and several stops around the league before he finally lifted the trophy, while McDavid is still chasing his first championship despite already cementing himself as one of the NHL’s greatest ever.
