Pro Football Hall of Fame member Joe Thomas met with President Donald Trump on Friday, and NFL fans were not too happy about it.
Thomas played 11 seasons at offensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns. Now retired, Thomas was part of the Class of 2023 inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Thomas was a 10-time Pro Bowler, was part of the NFL All-Decade Team in the 2010’s, and he played 10,363 consecutive snaps.
Joe Thomas Not Making Friends Over Meeting With Donald Trump
Besides meeting with Trump, Thomas also met with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins.
Trump has made appearances at sports events and will be present for Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
Thomas thanked Trump after talking with the President about the issues he and the farmers were facing. “It was great meeting Donald Trump and Brooke Rollins today in God’s country and having an opportunity to highlight some of the major issues that need addressing for family farmers and BEEF producers in this country!” he wrote on X, and immediately received a lot of negative comments.
One account said on X, “Thanking the guy who helped bring screwworm back to the US and f**king up the US beef market. Interesting (and frankly, stupid) decision.”
Another account called out Thomas for meeting with Trump, by writing:
Embarrassing and just flat out wrong.
Be better Joe. https://t.co/3ETbENDryB

One user, Hal_For_NY, called out Trump’s policies that have been harmful to farmers.”Trump’s policies have directly hurt farmers. What exactly are you celebrating?” he asked on X.
Very disappointing Joe, you were an idol of mine, do better https://t.co/wcLlq6b1Jf

One Browns fan called out Thomas, saying, “Joe Thomas can’t be this stupid.
Based on these reactions, Thomas lost some credibility in some fans’ eyes. However, it is not the first time that an athlete has faced criticism for meeting with Trump or praising him. Recently, Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants quarterback, introduced the President at a rally in New York, and since then, he has been in the news constantly.
It will be interesting to see whether Thomas keeps coming out in support of Trump, as people on social media are ready to call out anyone seen endorsing the President.
