The New York Giants have found themselves dealing with some controversy between some of their young stars. Jaxson Dart appeared at a Donald Trump rally and introduced Trump to the podium. This caught the eye of teammate Abdul Carter, who had his own thoughts on Dart’s appearance. They weren’t in support of Dart, but the two players worked it out between each other.
Despite this, former MVP Cam Newton isn’t convinced that this team won’t find itself in more drama with potential ego issues in New York.
Cam Newton Addresses Jaxson Dart-Abdul Carter Awkwardness
Newton didn’t mince words on a potential ego problem that could transpire in New York in the aftermath of Carter and Dart’s controversy.
Carter tweeted about Dart’s appearance at Trump’s rally and said that he originally believed that it was AI. He was shocked that his quarterback was out there with Trump. It caused this clash, and Newton brought up concerns for the Giants.
“Hey, are we going to talk about this ongoing kind of awkwardness in the locker room between Jaxson Dart and [Abdul Carter]?” said Newton. “Hey, are we going to talk about does Jaxson Dart have the mental telepathy to lead this team?
“Does he understand being a quarterback not only is it an expectation for you to lead this team on the field, but it’s also off the field? See, are we going to talk about Abdul Carter being a distraction? Because not only did he have said tweets that go viral, but is his production going to catch up to what he was asking?”
Newton continued, “This is the same person that was asking for LT’s number. All right. There’s so many different things. Is Jaxson Dart going to be a distraction? See, this team ain’t missing no ego.”
The Giants have a lot of young talent and are going to need these players to lead them back to the playoffs. Dart is their franchise QB, and he can’t be wrapped up in controversy with his own teammate.

New York has a great veteran head coach in John Harbaugh to help ease any tension and get the team through this potential issue. Harbaugh knows what it takes to win and should help the Giants get out of the bottom of the NFL.
It is time for Dart to make a leap in his second season and avoid a sophomore slump. After taking over the starting job early in 2025, he showed plenty of promise.
Carter still showed flashes, too, but not to the level of Dart. The offense in New York is going to be very interesting with Cam Skattebo, the returning Malik Nabers, and the reunion with Odell Beckham Jr.
The Giants have quite the squad and will have to manage any potential ego clashes, as Newton suggested. There’s going to be some pressure on this squad to show improvement, and only time will tell if this will cause drama within the squad when things potentially don’t go to plan.
