The Philadelphia Eagles needed a new look, as last season, their offense was well below their standards, and former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo took the hit for their poor performance. With a new offensive coordinator and the likely departure of star receiver A.J. Brown, it’s going to be a different offense in Philadelphia, which is under pressure to perform after winning a Super Bowl not too long ago.
Three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth, however, isn’t convinced that this team will be much improved.
Mark Schlereth Voices Concern Over Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts
After winning the Super Bowl in the year prior, Philadelphia fell way short of its goal of repeating last season and lost in the Wild Card round. The future looks a lot different just one offseason later, and Schlereth isn’t moved by their potential outlook heading into next season. He spoke about Jalen Hurts after being asked on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd” about why the Eagles quarterback is under immense pressure to perform.
“It feels to me, for whatever reason, this is just a feel. I don’t have any inside information on this; something’s off,” Schlereth said. “I can’t tell you what it is that’s off.”
Schlereth then mentioned that NFL quarterbacks have to always praise their teammates when things go right, and when things go wrong, they’ll have to take full blame.
Jason McIntyre then asked him whether Hurts is not doing that, to which he replied, “I don’t know… He may not do it on the podium. I don’t have any idea. But if that becomes a perception in a locker room with your quarterback, then your guys are just not really going to rally around that guy.”
Hurts won Super Bowl MVP in 2024 and was absolutely outstanding for the Eagles. He saw his production plummet as the entire Philadelphia offense looked like a shell of itself in 2025. According to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, he posted an impact score of 78.1, ranking 15th in the league.
As mentioned earlier, there are doubts surrounding Hurts and putting a lot of pressure on him to perform in 2026. It’s unbelievable to think about, but if the offense can’t figure itself out, Hurts might be one of the scapegoats for their lack of success.

The Eagles are loaded on offense even if they trade A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots, which is the reported expectation at the moment. They have Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, Dallas Goedert, and players who can contribute on the offensive line.
The offensive line has been one of their keys to success, but it wasn’t quite as dominant last season. Now, their offensive line coach, Jeff Stoutland, is gone, and the new offensive staff is taking control of the talented unit.
When talking about the Eagles’ chances to win the division, Schelreth said, “Philadelphia has one of the most talented rosters in football, but their offensive line coach, Jeff Stoutland, said, ‘Hey, see you later, guys. I don’t want to be here anymore,’ you know, they’ve got issues with their wide receiver [Brown], you know, the quarterback, there’s questions about the quarterback that like there’s a lot of things going on in Philadelphia.”
There are issues everywhere. Barkley put up an all-time season just two seasons ago and rushed for almost 900 fewer yards in 2025. All around the offense, results were disappointing.
Eagles fans will be hoping that it was due to Patullo and the offensive coaching, but if it isn’t, the Eagles are going to have to take a hard look at their offense and re-evaluate.
