‘Would Be Good For Business’ — Cam Newton Calls For Chiefs To Sign 4-Time Pro Bowler After Rashee Rice’s Jail Stint

Cam Newton urges the Chiefs to sign Stefon Diggs to overcome the uncertainty created by Rashee Rice's off-field issues.

With wide receiver Rashee Rice once again making headlines off the field after being ordered to serve jail for 30 days, the Kansas City Chiefs have to rethink their options at the wide receiver position seriously, and Cam Newton brought answers.

The Chiefs are looking to come back from their worst season under quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and having a receiver who’s in hot water with the law could compromise their campaign.

Cam Newton Calls for Chiefs To Capitalize on Celebrity Power, Replace Rashee Rice With Stefon Diggs

Rice is currently serving a one-month jail sentence for testing positive for THC, violating the terms of his probation stemming from a 2024 Dallas crash case. Newton, a former NFL MVP quarterback, believes the Chiefs should look at the bigger picture when it comes to their roster.

Having a star player on the roster who’s constantly at risk of missing games due to run-ins with the law is highly compromising for a team. As such, Newton called for the Chiefs’ front office to go after four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs, who bagged an 87.0 PFSN WR Impact score in 2025.

“[Rice] has to understand the only reason he has this opportunity is because what the Chiefs have identified as his upside is bigger than his low side,” Newton said on the “4th & 1” podcast. “But once the low side starts getting bigger than the upside, then you’re gonna be upside down.”

While the Chiefs would logically approach the Rice situation from a team-building perspective, Newton has another interesting idea in mind that would turn the franchise into the biggest draw on the planet.

“Speaking of opportunity,” the former NFL MVP added. “If you were to ask me what I think about it, Mr. Andy Reid, brother, go out there and get Stefon, brother… Because you’re talking about business, brother, and when you talk about stars — a star that took over the NFL in 2024… was who? Taylor Swift took over the NFL in 2024. Who took over the NFL in 2025? (Cardi B) You got two shooting stars… That would be good for business, brother.”

Pop superstar Taylor Swift is engaged to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Meanwhile, four-time Pro Bowler Diggs is reportedly in a relationship with another music star, Cardi B. By having the two receivers on the same team, Arrowhead Stadium will be able to see two of the biggest names in the music industry when the Chiefs play at home.

Newton is understating how beneficial that would be for business, as Cardi B could help increase the team’s fan base.

However, no NFL franchise has ever built its roster based on players’ partners, so it remains to be seen what the front office does to address the Rice dilemma.
