‘Cash In the Lottery Ticket’ — Giants Urged To Sign 3-Time Pro Bowler Amid Darius Slayton, Malik Nabers’ Injury Concerns

Art Stapleton urges the Giants to reunite with a 3-time Pro Bowler as NYG looks to bag some insurance for their top two receivers.

Despite a plethora of major offensive additions this offseason, there is still considerable uncertainty surrounding the New York Giants’ wide receiver room. As OTAs progress and mandatory minicamp approaches, Giants writer Art Stapleton believes the organization should officially reunite with a 3-time Pro Bowler to help bring stability to the unit.

Giants Urged to ‘Cash In the Lottery Ticket’

“If Odell Beckham Jr. is healthy, and everything I heard about his workout with the Giants last month suggests he is, nothing I saw today would indicate that there’s no room for him in this WR group,” Stapleton wrote in his column, urging the Giants to bring OBJ to town.

“Nabers out, no timetable, hope for Week 1 return,” he continued. “Slayton out until camp. A rehabbing Skattebo. Isaiah Likely + Theo Johnson are top two targets. Darnell Mooney + Calvin Austin will get chances. It’s only OTAs, but Giants could use more options.

“Cash in the lottery ticket before spring is out.”

As Stapleton noted, the team’s top two receivers, Nabers and Slayton, are expected to be out until at least the beginning of training camp. Meanwhile, Skattebo, a very talented pass-catching running back (and fantasy football favorite), is still recovering from an in-season injury of his own.

That leaves third-year TE Theo Johnson, along with recent free agent acquisitions, Likely, Mooney, and Austin, as the only realistic healthy options on this offense heading into the Spring.

Other notable names on the Giants’ current depth chart include Isaiah Hodgins, Jalin Hyatt, 2026 third-round draft pick Malachi Fields, and return men Gunner Olszewski and Xavier Gipson.

Beckham, while no longer the player he once was, could still provide a reliable veteran presence to the Giants’ receiving room this season.

Revisiting Beckham’s Most Recent NFL Stint

Beckham last saw NFL action with the Miami Dolphins in 2024. Playing alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham managed just nine receptions for 55 yards across nine contests. Following Week 14, he was released by the team and remained unsigned for the rest of the season.

In 2025, Beckham served a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Once again, he remained unsigned and missed the entire season. 2023 was the last season Beckham qualified for PFSN’s WR metrics, ranking 41st among all receivers, per PFSN’s NFL WR Impact.

Now, a year after his suspension, Beckham, reportedly healthy and ready to go, could look to turn back the clock with his former team. The 33-year-old would likely operate more as a rotational/depth piece once Nabers returns, but Giants fans would sure love to have him back in blue and white.
