With the accompanying interview taking place just a day after Sabalenka’s shocking third-round loss to Sorana Cîrstea at the Italian Open, Frangulis told Vogue about how he supports Sabalenka through her distress after such defeats. He explained that while he gives her space, he also refuses to let her wallow in her room.

“Aryna is very upset. For me, it’s a matter of being around but also giving her the space to get her thinking straight. She’s a killer, she’s the best, but sometimes it takes her 24 hours to remember that. My goal is to do whatever she’s doing, but if she wants to spend the whole day in her hotel room, I tell her we can’t just stay here as if someone has died. So tonight, we’re going out for some pasta,” he said.

Meanwhile, the world No. 1 humorously revealed how she had ensured that Frangulis wouldn’t buy her a modest engagement ring. The tactic clearly paid off, as she now sports a dazzling 12-carat diamond since the Brazilian proposed to her at Indian Wells earlier this year.

“You know, I would tell him, ‘I’m a big girl, and my hand is big, and a small ring would look very…small,'” she said.
