New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has been involved in one of the NFL’s top off-field stories for more than a month. The controversy started on April 7, when Page Six released photos of Vrabel and Dianna Russini holding hands at a resort in Sedona, Arizona.
More photos of Vrabel and Russini emerged from a New York City bar in 2020 and a Mississippi casino in 2024. Russini resigned from The Athletic on April 14 amid an ongoing internal investigation, while Vrabel skipped the third day to seek counseling.

More details about the scandal came out when TMZ published documents and video of Vrabel and Russini renting a private boat together in Putnam County, Tennessee, in June 2021 while Vrabel was coaching the Tennessee Titans.
Russini was visibly pregnant at the time with her first child, and the report noted that both appeared cautious about being photographed.
Veteran Patriots analyst Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston raised a concern that has largely gone unspoken throughout the saga.
“I think there’s a point at which you might as an individual, no matter how lofty your position and how important you are to the organization, might say, ‘I am depressed, I can’t do this, I can’t take the scrutiny.’ Everybody has a breaking point,” Curran said.
“I think everybody wants it to be neat and tidy, as in Mike steps away to help the brand and to get his life in order, and he just couldn’t,” he added. “There’s a mental health aspect I would imagine to this, which is pretty profound on a daily basis.”
From the outside, Vrabel has shown resilience throughout his coaching career. He guided the Patriots to a 14-3 record and a Super Bowl appearance in his first season as head coach, and also won the Coach of the Year award.
Before that, he spent six seasons in Tennessee amid constant roster changes and tension in the front office, which proves that the 50-year-old head coach is built to handle pressure.
However, that hasn’t stopped others from talking about them. Recently, the Los Angeles Chargers took subtle shots at Vrabel and Russini in their schedule release videos, as everyone expected.

As of now, the Patriots have publicly backed Vrabel, with owner Robert Kraft giving no indication that a firing is under consideration. Likewise, Vrabel’s wife, Jen, whom he has been married to since 1999, has not shown any signs of wanting to separate, which should help him find some peace at home.
But things could change if more details about their alleged relationship are revealed by TMZ or other outlets. The Patriots’ head coach will hope that nothing else comes out, and he can focus on his team, which has a way tougher schedule this year.

Please give this story a rest. It’s totally annoying. Who really cares? No one!
