Michael Irvin Thinks People Should “Leave It Alone”

NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin joined Ariel Helwani to discuss all things NFL, including the Vrabel/Russini situation. When asked if Vrabel will be the head coach for the Patriots in 2026, Irvin said, “We all want to jump into personal lives. Dude, if I just get a peek at your history, I’m sure it’ll tell me something. We all forget that we’ve done stuff when we’re talking about somebody else, and then we want to castrate and kill them.”

Irvin has been around the NFL a long time, and he knows more than anyone that stuff happens to players and coaches in every locker room. Irvin mentioned that NFL players and pro figures are held to higher standards than regular people, even though everyone does people things.

Irvin continued in his interview with Helwani, “Life happens. We’re trying to use people in football as the measuring stick for all righteousness. We act like, ‘I can’t believe this person did this.’ It’s a person, and people do things.”

Even though everyone knows what Vrabel and Russini are not right, Irvin mentioned, “Sometimes it’s not right, but we’re not in their homes. We don’t know what they’re dealing with. Get out of it. Leave it alone. It’s not your business.”

Vrabel is coming off an incredible first season with the Patriots. He won coach of the year, leading the Pats to 14 regular-season wins and an AFC championship. However, you can expect things to be much more difficult for Vrabel in year two, not only due to his off-field transgressions but also the Patriots playing a much tougher schedule.

No one seems to know how this situation will end up once the season begins, but you can bet it will remain a talking point.
