Paul Finebaum’s Blunt Message to Ole Miss Fans About Lane Kiffin
Appearing on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” Finebaum pointed out how Ole Miss fans were blindsided and showed devotion to Kiffin despite his history saying otherwise.
He said, “Let’s not get caught up on Lane Kiffin sticking around. He was never sticking around. He was always looking to leave you. The only thing that happened, and it happens all the time, is that Ole Miss people believed in him as if he was some superhuman being.”
Kiffin’s exit was messy: After leading the Rebels to a historic 11-1 regular-season record in 2025 and their first-ever College Football Playoff berth, he accepted the LSU job before the postseason even began.
“They wanted to fight with everybody who said he was going to leave,” Finebaum continued, referencing a tense exchange with Oxford’s own Chef Elizabeth. “I said, ‘He’s going to leave you,’ and she wanted to take my head off.”
“That’s just who he is. It doesn’t make him anything other than Lane Kiffin. His history and biography are well known.”
Tennessee fans might remember something similar, when Kiffin jumped ship just after one season. The pattern repeated during his Alabama days, when he took the Florida Atlantic job just before the national championship game.
“Most people are (not loyal). It’s just a matter of whether you should believe in somebody or not. And Ole Miss people made a big mistake in believing in him,” Finebaum concluded.
Pete Golding has officially taken the reins in Oxford, and the 2026 offseason has been defined by a pivot from Kiffin’s philosophy. Not only is QB Trinidad Chambliss back, but Kewan Lacy (1,567 rushing yards in 2025) remains the focal point of an offense that Golding has reshaped to be more physical and time-consuming.
In addition, Golding, a defensive mastermind, used the 2026 portal to add three 4-star secondary transfers in Jay Crawford, Joenel Aguero, and Sharif Denson. He is hoping to address the big-play vulnerability that haunted the Kiffin era through these new additions.
