‘Might Be Looking At Other Options’ — NFL Insider Points To 1 Scenario Where Eagles Could Move On From Jalen Hurts

An NFL analyst believes that the Philadelphia Eagles could part ways with quarterback Jalen Hurts after next year.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is one of the few active quarterbacks who has won a Super Bowl. Entering his seventh NFL season, Hurts hopes to bring the Eagles back to being a championship contender. As some players arrive and depart from Philadelphia, the quarterback remains the constant. An NFL analyst, however, pointed out a possible complication between the passer and his team.

NFL Analyst Outlines Departure Scenario for Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

In 82 starts, Hurts sports a record of 57-25, three Pro Bowl selections, and a Super Bowl MVP. Yet, criticism seems to find its way to the passer.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano, in a recent segment on “Get Up,” was asked whether the upcoming season is “make-or-break” for Hurts, and he shared a scenario where the Eagles could actually part ways with their quarterback.

“I think on some level it is,” Graziano said about the make-or-break question. “I always look at the contract, and you look at his 2027 money, it’s $22 million, but that’s all that’s guaranteed. After that, no guarantees.”

Philadelphia can escape from under the deal after this season. $22 million for a quarterback that they can trade for either draft capital or an established veteran makes sense. Graziano details what could have been the impetus for the athlete’s relationship with the organization.

“We already had the story come out earlier this offseason that seemed to indicate there was some dissatisfaction in the building with Jalen Hurts,” Graziano added. “I think if he has a bad year and the offense doesn’t work, then they might be looking at other options this time next year.”

In April, ESPN published an article by Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler detailing the problems between the quarterback and the franchise. First, they assert that Hurts bears responsibility for the passing game’s stagnation last season.

The team did not have more than 250 passing yards after Week 12. Moreover, they failed to reach 200 passing yards in three out of the last four games of the season. Hurts held down the No. 15 spot in the PFSN NFL QB Impact Rankings after completing just 64.8% of his throws, his lowest since 2021.

In addition, the ESPN report stated that friction exists between Hurts and wide receiver A.J. Brown. These compounds in the alleged distance and demanding nature of anonymous sources irritated his teammates. Graziano suggests that this season will be a true litmus test.

In essence, according to Graziano, the Eagles will give Hurts one more season to fix the issues, bond with teammates, and buy into what it takes for the team to succeed. Philadelphia prides itself on its ability to acquire the players needed to win. While they haven’t needed to change quarterbacks, they might still do so.
