‘You’ll See Me Dabble in Those’ — Caitlin Clark Teases Expanded Partnership With NBC After Appearing on NBA Broadcasts

Caitlin Clark hinted at a deeper future with NBC after two pregame appearances on Sunday Night Basketball this past NBA season.

Caitlin Clark spent her offseason doing more than rehabbing. The Indiana Fever superstar took two trips into NBC’s studio during the NBA’s regular season, and the experience clearly stuck. As the WNBA tips off its 30th season this weekend, Clark sat down with Yahoo Sports’ Shlomo Sprung and dropped a hint about what might come next on the broadcast side.

She was talking about her renewed partnership with Xfinity. Then she opened the door to something bigger with the parent company.

What Caitlin Clark Said About a Bigger Role With NBC

Clark’s words came as she discussed how her team at Excel Sports Management sifts through the avalanche of brand offers that land on her desk.

“It starts with relationships and helping people, making things accessible for them,” Clark said. “And I look for brands that are investing in me as well. There’s a ton of other things NBC does as well, so maybe you’ll see me dabble in those too going forward.”

It wasn’t a coincidence she said that. Comcast owns NBCUniversal. Xfinity is its flagship product, and Clark’s marketing relationship with the company dates back to March 2024. NBC just brought WNBA broadcasts back for the first time since 2002 as part of the league’s $2.2 billion media rights deal.

She made her broadcasting debut on February 1 at Madison Square Garden during the Lakers-Knicks game. The Basketball Night in America pregame show averaged 4.5 million viewers, the most-watched Sunday night regular-season NBA game since 2002, excluding Christmas Day. Peak viewership hit 5 million. She returned on March 29 to Oklahoma City for the Thunder-Knicks game.

Clark joined a Hall of Fame studio every time. Maria Taylor anchored. Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady worked alongside her. Reggie Miller was there too, as he compared her game to Payton Pritchard on the broadcast, getting a deadpan reaction from Clark that went viral immediately.

“I was definitely a little bit nervous at first,” Clark told Yahoo Sports. “But being around some of the best players that have ever played our game was really special. I’m super passionate about the game I love, so hopefully there can be more of that as well.”

Why Winning Still Comes First for Caitlin Clark

Yes, broadcasting work is fun, and brand deals will keep stacking up. But none of it matters to Clark if the basketball doesn’t hold up.

“If I don’t play basketball well, then none of this is going to come along with it,” Clark told Yahoo Sports. “And that’s what the fans love to watch. They love turning on the TV and watching us play the game. I think that’s why the WNBA has grown so much.”

She continued, “So if you don’t take care of the main thing first, you’re not going to have the rest of the opportunities.”

She’s been here before, just not at this level of expectation. Her season lasted only 13 games. Groin and ankle injuries prevented her from playing further. Despite that, Indiana made the semifinals without her and pushed Las Vegas to overtime in Game 5 before falling short.

A title is the part of the resume she does not have. Clark knows it.

“One of the most important things somebody ever said to me is you’ve reached this point, but as you continue to grow, the thing you have to do is be able to win,” Clark said. “I feel like that’s the point I’m kind of at now. You have to be able to win. That’s my main focus, winning and winning a championship. Everything else will come along with that.”

The Fever open against Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, and the Dallas Wings on Saturday.
