Jannik Sinner’s Dominance Isn’t ‘Boring,’ Macci Tells Critics With Bold Grand Slam Prediction

Jannik Sinner's on-court dominance is not boring, insists renowned coach Rick Macci, while making a bold prediction about his Grand Slam future.

Jannik Sinner has made a habit of rewriting history books with his sustained excellence on the ATP Tour. Although he has earned widespread admiration from the tennis community with his consistency and sheer dominance, he has also drawn criticism of his reign, much to the frustration of Venus and Serena Williams’ childhood coach, Rick Macci.

Rick Macci’s Grand Slam Prediction for Jannik Sinner

Sinner made what, by his lofty standards, was a worrying start to the 2026 season, losing to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals and being upset by Jakub Menšík at the Qatar Open. However, all concerns were put to rest when he bounced back with a vengeance during the Sunshine Double, winning both the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open to etch his name further in the history books.

The four-time Grand Slam champion extended his momentum into the clay-court season, as he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte-Carlo Masters final to lift the coveted trophy. He followed it up with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over world No. 3 Alexander Zverev in the Madrid Open final to clinch his record fifth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title.

Amid Sinner’s dominance, Rick Macci dismissed any claims that his reign had grown “boring,” and urged critics to appreciate the greatness on display. The veteran coach also made a bold prediction that the Italian will surpass 20 Grand Slam titles within the decade, a milestone only achieved by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer in the men’s game.

“If anybody thinks watching Sinner dominate is boring trust me they are snoring. Greatness shows up now and then in your lifetime. Everybody is seeing history made week in and week out in real time. Enjoy the Red Rocket because ten years from now he will probably have 20 plus slams already in the back pocket. @janniksin,” Macci posted.

Macci doubled down on his stance, suggesting that only injury could prevent the world No. 1 from reaching that historic mark.

“Sinner is hitting targets nobody else can hit. The Flamethrower also hits targets nobody else sees. The Red Rocket barring injury on target for 20 plus Slams. @janniksin,” he wrote.

What Is at Stake for Jannik Sinner at the Italian Open?

Sinner has arrived at the Italian Open with the clear aim of becoming only the second player after Novak Djokovic to complete the Career Golden Masters, winning all nine Masters events at least once.

With Carlos Alcaraz sidelined by a wrist injury, and both Alexander Zverev and Djokovic featuring on the opposite half of the draw, the Italian will see this as a prime opportunity to clinch the trophy at his home event.
