‘Gotta Stack Up My Real Life Chips’ — Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Reveals Real Reason He’s Prioritizing Colorado Graduation

The scene at Folsom Field has looked different over the last few seasons. But this May, the atmosphere shifted from the gridiron to the podium. Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders traded his orange and brown jersey for a black and gold cap and gown, returning to the University of Colorado Boulder to officially graduate.

Sanders has opened up on his further Colorado plans.

Why Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Is Considering a Master’s Degree

To Sanders, the degree isn’t just a piece of paper. It’s a strategic move in the game of life.

“I gotta stack up my real life chips,” he explained about the decision. “I might need to get my Master’s. I’m doing it for the activity of learning.”

This mindset reflects a grounded perspective often lost in the whirlwind of NFL fame. Despite his success in Cleveland, Sanders has remained vocal about the importance of intellectual growth.

The graduation was more than a personal milestone; it was a proud moment for the Sanders family. Deion Sanders, who has been the architect of the Colorado football revival, acknowledged the milestone by posting about the graduation on social media.

Shedeur’s sister, Shelomi Sanders, shared the sentiment, celebrating the accomplishment alongside their mother, Pilar, on social media.

Though he now calls Cleveland home, Sanders’ connection to Colorado remains deep. His time in Boulder was transformative, serving as the launchpad for his transition from a star prospect to a top-tier NFL quarterback. Returning to the Flatirons to graduate felt like a necessary closing of a chapter and perhaps the opening of a new one.

Sanders’ hint at pursuing a master’s degree suggests that his academic journey is far from over. In an era where many athletes prioritize short-term gains, he is playing the long game after already getting his degree in sociology with a 3.9 GPA, having completed his coursework remotely during the winter of 2024.

He is building a brand that is synonymous with excellence, intelligence, and a relentless pursuit of self-improvement. His return to Boulder could also give a boost to the Colorado football team, which currently only has 5.26 projected wins, per PFSN’s CFB Playoff Meter.
