There were contrasting emotions on display after the women’s singles final of the Madrid Open. Marta Kostyuk celebrated her triumph in remarkable fashion, while Mirra Andreeva reacted emotionally to her heartbreaking loss.
Kostyuk continued her remarkable run in Madrid, winning her first WTA 1000 title. She defeated Andreeva 6-3, 7-5 in a dramatic final to make it 11 straight wins and back-to-back titles on the WTA Tour.

Kostyuk and Andreeva took part in a tightly contested Madrid Open final on Saturday, with the former coming out on top with a complete performance. She broke her opponent’s serve 4 times, fired 4 aces, and claimed the biggest win of her career.
After winning the Madrid Open, Kostyuk celebrated in a special fashion. The Madrid Open crowd cheered her on as she performed a backflip in the middle of the court. After lifting the trophy, she also popped a bottle of champagne.
On the other side, there was the agony and heartbreak of defeat for Andreeva, who was seen crying with a towel on her face. The Russian arrived in the final in excellent form after winning the title in Linz and reaching the semifinals in Stuttgart.

Andreeva, who just turned 19 this week, performed well in Madrid. But she was unable to convert her form into a third WTA 1000 title. During the post-match trophy ceremony, she thanked her team for all their support.
“Thanks to my team for always being there for me. I’m sorry. I promised myself I’m not gonna cry. I’m sorry. I’m just not gonna look at you because it’s easier like this. Thanks to my team for always being there for me and supporting me at all times, when it’s easy and when it’s hard,” Andreeva said.

Kostyuk dropped just one set at the Madrid Open, in the semifinals against Anastasia Potapova. The 23-year-old dominated proceedings at the WTA 1000 tournament and also saw off Jessica Pegula and Linda Nosková in Madrid en route to the title. As a reward for her triumph, she will jump to 15th in the WTA Rankings next week.
