Emma Raducanu may finally be ready to make a comeback on tour. She has been spotted at Foro Italico, the venue of the Italian Open, after an extended break from tennis. The Brit hasn’t competed since her 6-1, 6-1 loss against Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells in early March.
Raducanu appeared to be in good spirits in Rome ahead of her anticipated campaign at the WTA 1000 event.
Emma Raducanu Returns to Court Ahead of the Italian Open
In Rome, Raducanu, ranked World No. 27, is defending her fourth-round appearance from last year. During her 2025 campaign, she beat Maya Joint, Jil Teichmann, and Veronika Kudermetova before falling against eventual runner-up Coco Gauff.
This year, she is set to be seeded at the tournament, earning a direct entry to the second round. However, Raducanu’s illness-related break has put her on the back foot. She hasn’t yet competed in a single clay-court match.
After a second-round exit at the Australian Open, the Brit resumed her journey in Cluj-Napoca and reached her first tour final since the 2021 US Open. She fell short against local favorite Sorana Cîrstea and subsequently revealed that she had taken ill during the campaign.
Raducanu’s Doha and Dubai runs were brief, and her Indian Wells appearance didn’t yield a favorable result either. At the time, she admitted that she was still battling the effects of her illness and dropped out of the Miami Open. Weeks later, the 23-year-old pulled out of the Linz Open and the Madrid Open.
Videos of Emma Raducanu’s practice sessions at Foro Italico recently emerged online. She was spotted warming up and also briefly interacted with Eva Lys and her sister. Also present was Jane O’Donoghue, the Brit’s childhood coach, who mentors her from time to time.

It has also been reported that the player reunited with Andrew Richardson, the coach who guided her to the US Open title. She is said to have trained briefly with Richardson in Spain during her break. However, the former coach’s presence during her tournaments remains unclear.

Raducanu ended her sixth-month partnership with Francisco Roig in January this year and trained with Mark Petchey during her brief Indian Wells run. Roig, meanwhile, joined Iga Świątek’s team last month after she announced her split from Wim Fissette.
