Arthur Fils Left Frustrated During Jannik Sinner Onslaught

Fils arrived in Madrid in scintillating form after his triumph at the Barcelona Open. After struggling against Ignacio Buse in his opener, he delivered strong performances against Emilio Nava, Thomas Martin Etcheverry, and Jiří Lehečka to reach the semifinals. There was high anticipation going into his match against Sinner as a result, but Fils wasn’t able to pull off the upset.

As he struggled to keep up with Sinner in the first set, Fils let out his frustration on the court. His words were shared by a tennis fan on social media.

“He’s killing me,” Fils yelled to his team in frustration during the first set of his match against Sinner.

After the match, the World No. 1 spoke about taking a more aggressive approach and how he countered Fils’ high intensity.

“I tried to be very aggressive. Second set he started to serve better, so it was more difficult. I’m trying to play the best possible tennis I can in this moment,” Sinner said after the match.

He also reserved special praise for Fils, who has made the quarterfinals at each of the last five tournaments he has competed in.

“He is one of the best players in the world at the moment… He’s very good for tennis, for the sport. I’m really happy about today’s performance,” he said.
