Arthur Fils became the latest player to fall to Jannik Sinner as he suffered a 2-6, 4-6 defeat in the semifinals of the Madrid Open. The Frenchman came into the match in excellent form but was no match for the Italian.
Sinner’s reward is a spot in yet another final as he looks to make history by becoming the first player in ATP Tour history to win five straight Masters 1000 titles.
Arthur Fils Left Frustrated During Jannik Sinner Onslaught
Fils arrived in Madrid in scintillating form after his triumph at the Barcelona Open. After struggling against Ignacio Buse in his opener, he delivered strong performances against Emilio Nava, Thomas Martin Etcheverry, and Jiří Lehečka to reach the semifinals. There was high anticipation going into his match against Sinner as a result, but Fils wasn’t able to pull off the upset.
As he struggled to keep up with Sinner in the first set, Fils let out his frustration on the court. His words were shared by a tennis fan on social media.
“He’s killing me,” Fils yelled to his team in frustration during the first set of his match against Sinner.

After the match, the World No. 1 spoke about taking a more aggressive approach and how he countered Fils’ high intensity.
“I tried to be very aggressive. Second set he started to serve better, so it was more difficult. I’m trying to play the best possible tennis I can in this moment,” Sinner said after the match.
He also reserved special praise for Fils, who has made the quarterfinals at each of the last five tournaments he has competed in.
“He is one of the best players in the world at the moment… He’s very good for tennis, for the sport. I’m really happy about today’s performance,” he said.

In Sunday’s Madrid Open final, Sinner awaits Alexander Zverev or Alexander Blockx. The Italian has never faced the young Belgian but has beaten the German thrice over the last six weeks.
No matter who he faces in the final, Sinner will be confident of his chances of coming out on top. He continues to raise his level in the closing stages of tournaments and finds ways to win, no matter the situation.
As he gears up for yet another final, Sinner has established an air of invincibility. His dominant run of form has seen him leave many talented players on the ATP Tour in his wake, and it will certainly be interesting to see who can finally end his winning streak.

ALL players are demolished by Jannik Sinner! They can’t keep up NO MATTER how high their level in previous matches. He keeps winning. He’s too good!☝️🤣👏👍
