How Laila Hasanovic Reacted to Jannik Sinner’s ‘Dating App’ Clarification

Sinner, who is aiming to win his fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title, kicked off his Madrid Open campaign with a hard-fought 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-4 victory over Benjamin Bonzi. He followed it up with a more comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win against Elmer Møller to book his place in the fourth round.

After addressing the crowd in Spanish during his on-court interview, the world No. 1 candidly acknowledged his limited proficiency in the language and considered using learning apps like Duolingo and Babbel to improve his skills.

“It’s not good yet, but my goal is to speak in one year. So, I’m trying to learn. I have an Argentinian physio also, which helps for sure. And then we see. I understand a little bit but cannot speak yet. I still need to find out. Duolingo and the other one is Babbel, no? So let’s see,” Sinner said.

The exchange took a humorous turn when the interviewer confused Babbel with the dating app Bumble, prompting the 24-year-old to rush to clarify that he has no need for dating apps.

“No, Babbel. Anyways, not the dating app; I don’t need the dating app,” he said with a laugh.

Although Laila Hasanovic hasn’t accompanied the four-time Grand Slam champion to the Madrid Open, she showed that she was following along from afar by liking an Instagram post about the interaction.

While she is absent in Madrid, Hasanovic did recently join Sinner’s family courtside during his triumph at the Monte-Carlo Masters and celebrated joyfully with him afterward. She has been a constant source of support for the Italian, even joining him on court after his triumph at the 2025 ATP Finals and cheering for him on social media whenever she cannot be there in person.

Up next, Jannik Sinner will lock horns with Cameron Norrie in the fourth round of the Masters 1000 event, marking their first tour-level encounter. If the world No. 1 emerges victorious, he will take on Rafael Jódar or Vít Kopřiva in the quarterfinals.

With Carlos Alcaraz cutting his clay-court season short due to a wrist injury, Sinner stands as the overwhelming favorite to clinch his maiden Madrid Open title. The 24-year-old will also benefit from not having his biggest rival in the draw when he embarks on his quest to complete his Career Grand Slam at the French Open.
