Bill Goldberg Shares Thoughts on Deion Sanders’ Program

“I’m just happy, looks like the kids are happy,” Goldberg said. “They’re jelling together. They’re celebrating together. It’s a whole different team. Even more so than the production on the field. It’s the way that they play together. It’s the way that coach talks about them. It’s the way that the new coaches carry themselves. It’s the way that they project it onto the team.

“You got leaders on this team that stand for something. They’re foundation players, and you need people that would run through a flipping wall for that emblem on their helmet and their jersey. I believe we got them now. From where they are now comparatively to where they were at this situation in the past couple years, I’m happy as I can be because they’re having fun.”

Goldberg, who played in the NFL and was teammates with Sanders on the Atlanta Falcons in 1992 and 1993, shares a personal bond with the Colorado head coach. He credited Sanders for pushing him toward his professional wrestling career, saying in 2024 that Sanders deserves “100 percent credit” for his path into wrestling.

The connection between the two families continued when Goldberg’s son, Gage, joined Colorado as part of the 2024 recruiting class.

“All I can say is I love him like a brother,” Goldberg said in 2024 in a video uploaded by the “Well Off Media” YouTube channel. “Now he’s taking care of my boy. There’s no other defining way that I can describe it except for the fact that my son is going to school under Deion Sanders. And I couldn’t be more appreciative and blessed.”

Gage is a sophomore linebacker for the Buffaloes and has contributed on special teams. He saw the field for 81 snaps on special teams in the 2025 season, the 16th most on the team, while being tied for the team lead with 10 special teams points.

Gage and his Colorado teammates will try to help the team rebound following the 2025 season. PFSN gives the Buffaloes a 0.4% chance of winning the conference in 2026.

Sanders revealed ongoing health challenges following the spring game on Saturday, explaining that he underwent another procedure related to blood clot issues he has been dealing with since his time at Jackson State. He said that he has had multiple surgeries over the past few years, including a procedure three weeks ago, but remains confident about being available moving forward into offseason preparations and the upcoming season.
