Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s intense 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters final concluded with the Italian dethroning his opponent not only as the champion but also as the World No. 1. Alcaraz was in awe of his rival’s achievement, while Sinner responded in kind during his victory speech.
Carlos Alcaraz Applauds Jannik Sinner’s Achievement in Monte-Carlo
On Sunday, Sinner became only the second man after Novak Djokovic to win the first three Masters 1000 titles of the season, banking on his fine form from his title runs in Indian Wells and Miami. Notably, the Italian is now on a streak of four consecutive Masters 1000 titles won, having won the Paris Masters in November last year.
During his runner-up speech, Alcaraz said, “I just need to start with Jannik. I mean, it’s impressive what you’re achieving right now. Just one man in the open era won the Sunshine Double and then Monte-Carlo, and you are the second one to achieve it. It’s something incredible. I just experienced how difficult it is to make that happen, so it’s just, congratulations for everything, for the work you’re doing with your team.”
The Spaniard also acknowledged the presence of Sinner’s family, alongside his team, which included coach Simone Vagnozzi and fitness coach Umberto Ferrara.
“I could see almost your whole family here, a lot of staff of your team, just really happy to see you winning titles in front of them. So congratulations to you and of course your family and team.”

Alcaraz also appreciated his team’s effort across the week, despite failing to defend his title. “And my team over there. It wasn’t the end that we wanted, but besides that we just had a lot of fun this week. We enjoyed every single day here, playing off and on the court. You made it super fun, and I feel like I’m at home with you guys. So thank you very much with the work you’re doing, with everything you’ve done this week. Of course, going to be better next time for sure.”
Sinner, meanwhile, was appreciative of his arch-rival’s historic journey so far. Earlier this year, the Spaniard became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open.
“Carlos, congrats to you and your team. You’re doing amazing things, year after year, and you keep showing why you are the player you are. Achieving things that nobody else achieved before with your age. Facing you, especially in the finals and at the end of the tournament, it makes it even more special. So thank you so much, and I wish you all the best for the rest of the season.”
Sinner then thanked his team for staying by his side, particularly during the difficult transition from hard courts to clay courts. The Italian is on a 17-match-winning streak, having won three titles in a row since March.
“My team, thanks for pushing me to the limit. It has been a very, very interesting week, starting here with trying to understand again how to play on the surface, and now having this, here, it means a lot to me. So thanks every single one there in the box. Thanks for supporting, thanks for understanding me, and we try to keep pushing.”
Sinner bettered his record to 7-10 against Alcaraz with the win in Monte-Carlo. He also surpassed the Spaniard in total career titles. Both players were tied at 26 before the final.
