Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has faced criticism following a topsy-turvy campaign last year. The chatter around the three-time Pro Bowler won’t stop, as most of it is not flattering.
What Super Bowl Champion Lavonte David Thinks of Eagles QB Jalen Hurts
The Eagles’ franchise quarterback struggled in the lone postseason game of the 2025 season, completing 20 of 35 passes for 168 yards and 1 touchdown. Following Super Bowl LIX, a narrative centered on Hurts, with multiple outlets labeling him “not the most coachable.”
In a recent episode of “The Speakeasy” podcast, host Emmanuel Acho asked Buccaneers legend Lavonte David if he considered Hurts an elite quarterback.
David said, “To me it’s different levels. I played with elite. I know elite. Even Tom Brady at 41 and 40 was elite. He not elite yet. He’s a good quarterback. He’s a winner. He does what he’s supposed to do. But as far as elite, I put Pat Mahomes. Josh Allen, those guys as elite.”
Despite the criticism, Hurts finished the 2025 campaign with 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions while completing 64.8% of his passes. He ranked 15th overall in PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Metrics with a 78.3 score and a C+ grade.
Hurts has a new offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion after Kevin Patullo was relieved of his duties earlier this year. Mannion is expected to advise Hurts to play under center more often, but he will likely be playing without wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Jason Kelce Defends Jalen Hurts Amid Criticism Over the Eagles’ Offense
The former Eagles star addressed the criticism surrounding Hurts and offered honest insight on his former teammate.
“I know there’s a story that came out about Jalen earlier. My overall thing, especially with Jalen: what quarterback doesn’t want to run their stuff? … I think it’s very coincidental that it comes when the season and everything don’t go the way they want and people are getting fired,” Kelce said.

“So this is a big year for him, and at the end of the day, I think they have great players there and they have a lot of great leadership in that building, and when you combine them with Vic Fangio, I feel very confident about the Eagles this season. I think the drama is going to start going in the other direction at some point.”
As Hurts’ stubbornness, poor body language, and unwillingness to be flexible come into question, the Super Bowl MVP quarterback will be under immense scrutiny if there is a lack of growth in the Eagles’ offensive scheme in 2026.
