In a 2026 quarterback class that has a lot of question marks, Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green might be the biggest one. With elite athletic traits but clear developmental needs, Green presents a boom-or-bust profile that teams will need to evaluate carefully.
Several franchises across the league could view him as a worthwhile gamble, whether as a long-term project or a versatile offensive weapon. From quarterback-needy teams to contenders seeking depth, Green’s unique skill set could make him one of the most intriguing fits in the draft.
Arizona Cardinals
The quarterback position is a huge question mark for the Cardinals after they released Kyler Murray. They have Jacoby Brissett, who did not play well last year, earning a C grade and ranking No. 25 in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric. In addition to Brissett, they also have veteran Gardner Minshew.
However, drafting Green will give the Cardinals an exciting young face in the room. Green is the opposite of Minshew and Brissett. Minshew and Brissett are good in the pocket but struggle to create outside, while Green is the opposite.
According to his PFSN scouting report, “Green’s field vision, accuracy, and risk aversion remain sore areas.” However, his physical abilities are phenomenal, as he ran a 4.36 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Head coach Mike LaFleur has quite a tall task figuring out who will be the next passer for Arizona, but taking Green in the late rounds could be a good choice and something different in Arizona’s quarterback room.
Denver Broncos
For years, when he was with the New Orleans Saints, head coach Sean Payton loved to use Taysom Hill in different ways. Hill was used as a tight end, quarterback, running back, and wide receiver in New Orleans. So, in a sense, Green could be Payton’s version of Hill in Denver.
There is no doubt that quarterback Bo Nix is the future in Denver, but Green could be a fun player Payton could use in his offense in electric, unique ways.
The Broncos have a good, not great, running game, but Green could help take them to the next level.
Detroit Lions
The Lions are in a similar situation to the one the Kansas City Chiefs were in the mid-2010s, with a great roster and a pretty good, not elite passer. The Chiefs had Alex Smith, who did a good job getting the team to the playoffs, but they eventually drafted and developed Patrick Mahomes to get the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.
The Lions are in a potentially similar spot with Jared Goff. Goff has shown to be great in the regular season; last year, he earned a B- grade and ranked No. 8 according to QBi. However, Goff has struggled to get a talented Detroit roster to the Super Bowl.
Per Green’s scouting report, “Taylen Green stands to benefit as one of the more traits-rich quarterbacks in the sparse 2026 NFL Draft class.” So, if the Lions develop those traits, they could be in for something special.
However, even if Green does not hit his ceiling, he could be a fun backup in the Motor City.
New England Patriots
Drake Maye is coming off an amazing season for New England, leading the team to the Super Bowl and being in the MVP conversation. So, Green is not a replacement for Maye, more so a great backup option.
Maye is great out of structure, so if Maye goes down with an injury, Green could come in as a solid option.
Green Bay Packers
Like New England, Green to Green Bay would be purely as a backup. The Packers lost Malik Willis to the Miami Dolphins in free agency after Willis had some great games the past two years. Willis and Green profile somewhat similarly, so bringing in Green could be a good replacement.

Overall, Green has a high ceiling. If he hits it, he could be one of the more exciting playmakers to watch in the NFL. Even if he does not, he still has a lot of good to offer.
